24th July 2023:

Very friendly and normal atmosphere. Combined splendid and spotlessly clean bedroom with nice atmospheric "pub" environment. Breakfast on second day was the best of my trip. And I was pleased to be able to test your fire alarm! Thank you. Richard

Tips:

Loads of great places to go - Inverie and Ardnamurchan Point would be my top two. The location itself is brilliant, and the good weather helped.

There's a great team at the Glenuig Inn led by Rona. The location is fantastic, in fact this was my fourth visit to the area! The food and drink were very good and our room was spacious with enough comfort for our two day stay.

Tips:

There's a beach nearby and some good walking. We went to the lighthouse at Ardnamurchan point and encountered some great scenery along the way. The place gives you a sense of calm and takes away the need to chase about.

Stayed a few times before, both times excellent and decided to take some friends with us to this gem of a place. After a lovely scenic drive we arrived at our pre-booked check-in time, everything was spotless at our accommodation, very spacious and the added bonus of a picnic table outside our front door with ample parking spaces available. We pre-booked our dinner for both nights of our stay, our meals were lovely and breakfast was very tasty. Our friends had their dog with them which was made most welcome. Rona and her team couldn't have been more helpful and we are already planning our next trip back. Loved it!!!

The smashing Samalaman beach is just around the corner past the village hall, plenty of walks and places to visit with stunning scenery all around this area.

We had a lovely night at Glenuig - from the moment we arrived Rona and team were friendly and welcoming. Our room was huge and immaculate, particular praise should go to whoever prepped the bathroom as it was sparkling! Dinner and breakfast were both served with a smile and our meals were lovely, making tasty use of local ingredients. Our spaniel, Pringle, particularly appreciated her breakfast sausage! This is a lovely, out of the way place in a stunning location which we were sorry to leave - we will return!!

Tips:

We followed Rona's recommendation for an after dinner stroll 15 mins up the quiet road to a lovely sandy beach - well worth it. Just down the road from the Inn is The Ardshealach Smokehouse where we made several purchases - having got home and sampled our wares we would happily recommend the smoked mussels, cheese and venison - delicious and a real taste of Scotland.

Really welcoming gem of a place to stay. Comfortable, warm, beautiful setting by the water’s edge. Sustainable ethos, great local food, I had “Culin Skink”, delicious fish soup & venison chilli! Breakfast delicious too. Friendly staff, who went out of their way to help, share local knowledge & be welcoming. Wonderful little bay nearby for wild swimming & we loved a day’s kayaking nearby too. I’d definitely return & recommend.

Tips:

Definitely book to eat at the lodge as not many other local options, & their food is really tasty! If you enjoy beautiful surroundings, walks, cycling, nature, wild swimming or kayaking, & good food this is the place for you! Probably easiest with a car, as I imagine public transport limited though.

Tips:

Small beach just along from inn is ideal for swimming and sun bathing. Check the ferries times to have a day trip to one of the small isles, recommend Eigg. Party of 4, plus 2 dogs for 4 nights. Everything you could want - fantastic breakfast, tasty dinner menu, friendly and welcoming staff with big smiles, dry wit, excellent homemade jam, doggie treats & cuddles on tap, unrivalled views, comfy beds and total peace & quiet. I haven’t slept so well for a long time. The owner has put much effort into creating a superb Inn in a truly magic location. Part of the gravel drive was tricky (but doable) with a wheelchair and Rona made sure we were able to access everywhere. We have already booked to return.

The bedrooms felt a little basic for the price. There were no glasses for water. Bathroom was too clinical. Nowhere comfortable to seat. Some biscuits would have been nice and a bowl for the dog. I would also suggest looking at more seasonal pricing. Most places will not charge the same nightly rates for a Monday in March compared to a Saturday in August. Great achievement is what has already been done just some fine tuning needed. Great staff and good food.

Perfect location for exploring the area. Ardnamurchan lighthouse and it's surrounding beaches a must.

I paid £300, excluding evening meals, for three days' stay and was very disappointed by the standard of hospitality, service and catering provided. While, having been ignored initially on arrival, Rona and the staff were friendly, the Glenuig Inn is run by amateurs. It needs a professional hospitality manager to bring it up to an acceptable standard.

Our stay was excellent and I could not fault any of it. I stay in many places due to work or even with the family and this place is as good as you can get. The location would be extremely hard to beat, especially for the cost of accomodation and food/Bar prices

Tips:

The scenery is wonderful and if you visit the rest of the area you will not be disappointed - it is still off the beaten track with castles and beaches tucked away. There are plenty of places to walk and feel as if you are the only ones there.

Wonderful staff, brilliant location great food. Plenty of hot water and the room was spacious

Tips:

We came to kayak and what an amazing place it was. We launched off the jetty in the bay which was handy because it is hard to find decent launching places near a parking space along this coast. On that day we went south to Lochranza Moidart and down the north passage to the wee castle. That was a spectacular trip. We also kayaked off the beach just north of Arisaig where you will find toilets and some parking. In the village of Arisaig is a lovely coffee shop called Sound Bites, been there a few times and it’s always good

immaculately clean room. Great Shower. Great bed. Lovely tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk. Serene location. Met loads of nice people over brekkie. Last Sunday of the month music an absolute bonus. A proprietor who really cares. Locals friendly!

Tips:

Sea kayaking remarkable (you're really close to the seals), forage the seaweed if you wish! Morar beach: miles of white sands, clear sea. Waterfall to punctuate the beauty. Minke whales and dolphin pods spotting on the wildlife cruises out of Arisaig - good value. Views from the Lighthouse at the end of the Ardnamurchan peninsular are breath-taking. Sunsets (we saw it from Arisaig harbour but it's all around) will stay with you forever. Mallaig harbour and Harry Potter train interesting. The Small Isles - Canna, Rhum, Eigg and Mugg - all feel in touchable distance. We were there for the Lochaber Gathering so caught the international bagpipes competition. But the highlight for me was being up the Highlands, seeing real Highlanders in kilts that are worn regularly complete with woolly socks and brogues, daggers, tweed jackets etc. While folk music played in the background eating the freshest / crispiest fish this side of Christendom.

Good, clean, basic accommodation, most suitable to those who enjoy the outdoors and wonderful scenery. We stayed here to attend a kayaking weekend in Arisaig. Our room was spacious and clean, the bed was really comfortable and we enjoyed a deep sleep each night. The menu was limited but every plate of food we consumed was exceptionally tasty - the fish & chips being the best we have tasted in a long time. There is live music on the last Sunday of the month from 3pm and we had the pleasure of seeing the place come alive with locals. A real taste of Scotland for any tourist!

Lovely food. Very clean rooms. Dog friendly but perhaps a 'no dogs to be off lead when in the pub or beer garden' policy would be better?

This is in a beautiful but yet very remote spot. If weather is bad there are no TVs in rooms - so take a book. Perfect for weddings as Glenuig Hall is just round the corner within walking distance and a sandy beach is a few mins drive (or 15 min walk) further along the road. Lots of wildlife to see - very peaceful.

Amazing location, so beautiful. Very comfortable Inn full of character and characters. Good sized bright room with comfortable bed and a bathroom with bath and shower. Good tea and coffee supply in room. All the food we had was really good, not a complaint there, love the use of local produce. Fantastic relaxed laidback friendly atmosphere. Very dog and child friendly. Look forward to next visit.

Tips:

Enjoy the immediate location, lovely beaches and wooded areas for kids to explore. Walk to the historic village of Smirsary. Pop in to the Smokery next door, lovely smoked cheese etc. I bought some locally handmade soap from the little village shop. Glenuig Inn is a great place to be based, so many places to visit from there, day trips to the Islands, visit Mallaig and Knoydart, amazing scenery for a cycle or drive to Moidart and Loch Shiel with so many places to paddle, swim or kayak. Thanks for a great stay. Really good to find somewhere truly welcoming for the dog! We had an excellent break, and lucked out with the weather. You were all so welcoming and helpful. Just one v small tip - probably covid related but when in the Bath having a soak you can't reach the soap dispenser which is shower height! Maybe a soap would be handy at Bath level. You kept the food options simple and it was well cooked. Best of luck with the season and hope to be back again soon.( Fire might have been nice in pub on quieter Sat night - but always difficult to get right in the shoulder months as could get too hot!! )

Tips:

Only here for a couple of days so v happy with what's on the doorstep! Always love a trip down to Dorlin and Castle Tioram. The circular walk down there taking in the old settlement on the hill is stunning & of course the whole area is dog paradise.

New owners = total transformation! Ignore all older reviews as since reopening in 2021 the Glenuig Inn is reborn. We were welcomed like family and felt cared for the whole time. Rooms are spacious and warm, the local ales are well worth sampling and the food is absolutely AMAZING. We only stayed three nights so couldn't try everything on the menu but "always give yourself a reason to come back"! The weather was torrential but in between deluges we explored the coast and Atlantic breakers. Do yourself a favour and book soon.

Tips:

Walk up the coast road and down to the Atlantic shore for amazing views of the Small Isles. If there's a musical evening do not miss the local talent, and try to sample everything on the menu, which caters for many dietary needs without compromise.

Really warm and friendly atmosphere and such a fantastic location to explore all around an awesome coastline. A bit wet and windy but we still saw the most amazing starry sky and the views were still stunning despite the rain.

No real complaints…but a couple of wee things! A hook on the back on the bathroom door would be handy and, although there was a recycling bin, a bin in the bedroom would be good. There is a tiny bin in the bathroom but we filled it up within a day. Minor stuff! Everything was great and we will be back.

The friendly and welcoming new owners of this inn are making great efforts to reconnect with the locals. The building had been previously stripped out and re fitted in a rather basic Nordic style which does not fit with the exterior. I hope that the new owners will be able to soften this style with local fabrics and the odd feature. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need, and well behaved dogs are given a warm welcome.

What a great find for our last evening in Scotland! Such a beautiful area. We were lucky with the weather. Our room was spacious and beds very comfortable. We really enjoyed dinner and breakfast. Lovely, friendly staff! Cannot wait to come back.

Tips:

Take a stroll pre dinner to Samalaman Bay - about 10 mins from the Inn. On a clear day you can see the peaks of Skye. We saw a local chap having a pint on the outside patio and he had a small battery desk fan to keep the midges away - such a good idea!

We are delighted that the Inn is now under new local ownership. Everything seemed difficult with the past owner and after all what pub does not sell chips which are actually quite good for you; carbohydrate, vitamin C, iron and fibre. Sugary drinks are far worse. The rooms are simple and unfussy which is actually quite nice and are very comfortable and very clean. Pleased the TV was out of action. Great food and excellent Scottish breakfast. We’ll be back. New ownership has made the ambience more welcoming and relaxed meaning for us a more enjoyable visit. Our first time staying in the accommodation which was functional, very clean and good value. We appreciated how dog friendly the service is. Good value and tasty meal options with great local seafood.

Tips:

Cafe Tiarom in Acharacle or the Cafe at the marina in Arisaig for pit stops. Ardshealach lodge for evening meals. Loads of local beaches, walks and water based activities but you need a car or a bike for many. The beach just along from the Inn is small but stunning and safe for young ones. We had a great, relaxing stay at the Glenuig Inn, 32 years since we last stayed there! Very comfortable room, with great bathroom and useful 'porch' area for wet boots & coats etc. Great that the dog could come too, sleep in our room and come to the restaurant. Even though there is 'Nothing to Do' at Glenuig we could happily have stayed for two weeks or more, as the beaches, the hills and the peace are just great and there is so much to explore! There is nowhere else to go for dinner, so you are tied to the Inn if you want to keep costs down; the nearest alternative is a 20min drive away so not really viable. The food however was delicious and not over priced - £147 for three 2 or 3 course meals for two people. The only critical comment I would make is that as none of the TV's work due to having no signal, either get them working or remove them completely. Wifi worked ok. We will definitely go back and it won't be another 32 years next time.

Tips:

If you have a dog, make sure you take a dog bed as there is no carpet for your pooch to lie on.

Hi - it is a pleasure to be able to write a review. My stay at Glenuig Inn was amazing, just what I needed. The whole team must be congratulated, whether they are public facing or behind the scenes preparing the amazing food and meals. The location could not be better. Despite being 'tucked away' it was close enough to major roads allowing access to some wonderful places to visit. The team were always interested in what my plans for the day might be and were able to make some very helpful suggestions. The en suit rooms are very good - comfy bed, spacious, in room fresh coffee and milk. I have and will continue to recommend Glenuig Inn to my friends and family! Despite the location being a long way from home, it was well worth the journey, which I will be making again! Thank you to Rhona, Rhona and the other team members for everything you did to make my stay with you a fantastic one! See you next time.....

Tips:

There are some great things to do and see around the area whether that is walking, adventures, drinking in the amazing and ever changing views. Check out the many walks you can do in the area and be prepared to drive to starting points. There are many hidden beaches and coves which can only be accessed by walking. I can't recommend Glenuig Inn highly enough as a based to explore the area....and there is a lot to explore!

Tips:

Visit the glenfininan viaduct as featured in Harry Potter and watch the steam train crossing, if you book early or are not in the school holiday season you can book on the train, it’s the Jacobite steam train journey from fort William to mallaig. Ferry to Skye sails from Millaig try Skye for a day out or boat trip from Portree harbour, disabled access on boat, whale, dolphins, seals, sea otters and sea eagles all possible to see if they feel like showing, we saw the sea eagles. Cracking roads for motorbikes and cars and marvellous rugged scenery. Also last but not least a visit to the Nevis range is a must! Well worth a visit to the highlands! 11th year staying at the Inn and the new staff are very friendly and welcoming. Excellent food and drink. I will definitely be back to stay again.

Tips:

The area is a mecca for Sea Kayaking with plenty of options depending on the weather. A favourite is the Loch Moidart loop where it is very common to see Sea Eagles, Golden Eagles, Otters along with Seals and a variety of sea birds. Another top trip is to take the ferry over to Canna on a Saturday, paddle round the island and catch the ferry back to Mallaig. Massive sea bird colonies, Golden Eagles, Sea Eagles, Minke whales, and Dolphins There is enough time to do this trip (approx 6 hours to paddle around), with 8 hours between ferries. A great bike ride is to start in Glenuig and ride the circuit towards Corran, then Glenfinnan and back along the A830 (or the other way round). It is an 80+ mile circuit with some big hills but is stunning scenery. There are lots of good walks too including mountains of An Stac and Roshven and the coastal path round to Smirisary. Lots of great views of the Small Isles. Fantastic sunsets over the Rum Cullins too.

We had a one night stay on our way to Orkney we had been to the Glenuig Inn 3 years ago for lunch before my sister left for Orkney. We loved the place and said we would come back and stay we were not disappointed. This time we had dinner and breakfast so nice. Staff very helpful 👍

Tips:

Just enjoy the peace and quiet. We went to Fortwilliam and saw Ben Nevis Have the salmon it's beautiful.

Our 4 night stay was perfect. We enjoyed dinner every night and the food was excellent quality, value and selection. We liked the simplicity of the room and enjoyed the space, especially the extra room in the entrance area perfect for outdoors activity clothing which we had rather a lot of. The bathroom too was wonderful after an active day out on the sea, lochs or mountains. All staff were friendly and there was a relaxed atmosphere that suits the location perfectly. We were sad to leave!

Tips:

We found this online looking for "best hotels for kayaking Scotland". It lived up to expectations and more being very relaxed and an excellent location for exploring far and wide. Ardnamurchan, Moidart and the north west highland coast all worth exploring. The Great Glen and Ben Nevis a short drive away with eagles overhead. There's a great coastal walk at the end of the Glenuig inn road too.

A warm welcome and friendly staff await you. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was great. I liked that the Inn was a little off the beaten track. Its situation is idyllic. The Inn prides itself on its green ethics and the 'digester' that turns all food waste into fuel is worth a look at!

Tips:

There are magical places to be discovered for those who appreciate nature, walking and who will respect the environment. Facilities for safe storage of kayaks etc was available. For those who want to look and not do there is Glenfinnan in easy reach with its viaduct and monument and the stunning beaches of Morar and Traich. Arisaig and Mallaig provide ferry access to the islands. Be prepared for midges

The smoker shop at the road end before the Glenuig Inn is very good. Good jetty to launch kayak at any tide time.

Lovely stay at the Glenuig Inn. Service and facilities were fantastic. The team really went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Area itself is absolutely beautiful with lots to do around the Inn. Outdoor seating was great especially as we were lucky with the weather. Food was exceptional especially considering we booked very last minute. Dog friendly: our dog loved being able to safely roam around with the other dogs there. If your thinking of booking....do it!

Tips:

There is a beautiful beach within walking distance and lots of outdoor activities.

The staff were so friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay.

Tips:

The views around the hotel are awesome and worth a wander to see. The hotel itself does great food and I would recommend a trip to Arisaig and a visit to The Old Library there.

We went sea kayaking with Rock Hoppers (Ben & Cal) which we highly recommend! They were fabulous! Not to mention the local smokehouse!

The accommodation is ideal for the hiking and sea kayaking activities we took part in. The location is idyllic. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Food was good but being a scallop lover I'd probably not have them battered and deep-fried again, but that just me. All the other food was great

Tips:

Dont travel during COVID, it just makes life hard. But this venue handled it very well.

We had an amazing 6 night stay. We were given a very warm welcome and the ongoing hospitality was faultless. The food and room superb too! Having a decent drying room was a real bonus and very welcome after our days of paddling. Thank you to Rona, Rona, Kirsty and Spice the dog!

Tips:

Ardnamurchan has so much to offer for anyone looking for an active holiday. For kayaking there are quiet lochs, trips around the coastline and the beautiful Skerries from Arisaig. There are numerous cycling options for road and gravel bikes and some great Corbetts too. The whole area is steeped in Jacobite history too. There's also the Glenfinnan Monument and Viaduct at the head of Loch Shiel, made famous by the Harry Potter films.

The new owners were welcoming and helpful. The accommodation was clean comfortable and the breakfast was lovely, you couldn't ask for more. We ate at the inn three times and all enjoyed the food. We really enjoyed are stay and returned relaxed and refreshed.

Tips:

We visited a few nice beaches and got close to Deer and also viewed a heard of them jumping the fence by the Inn. We have been to Scotland many times and have only seen one stag from a distance prior to this. We got the Ferry to mull and had a lovely day in Tobermory. Wish we had stayed longer.

The Inn has only recently changed ownership. The new owners seem very nice and we were made to feel welcome indeed and the food and service was good, particularly, as it is a new venture for them, and having to cope with COVID restrictions. Well done! I’m sure they will do well and we will be returning this summer.
