5th September 2024:

The rain on arrival made the walk from the train station seem longer than expected but when dry, was a pleasant 20-minute stroll along the lough side. The property was exquisitely decorated and furnished throughout, and the level of detail reflected the care and attention of live-in hosts. A fridge/cooler facility was a nice and welcome consideration. The breakfast choice was varied and fulsome and the single room was bigger than most experienced by this reviewer and even more unusual was the fact that it has the best view from the property. Thanks, and best wishes to Haley and Trev for continued success.

Large bedroom with a stunishing view on the Loch and a small en-suite bathroom, but large enough. Very modern and suitably furnished. A delicious breakfast buffet with homemade jam. The hostess Hayley is super friendly and very helpful. Very good communication. 100% recommendation.

Tips:

In the town of Fort William there are a lot of places. We liked the pizza and beer in the Black Isle Bar. And enjoyed a Whisky and Gin in the Ben Nevis Bar.

Everything about our stay at Ashburn House was wonderful! The location was excellent and the views stunning. The warm reception and the beautifully appointed room was so appreciated after a day of travelling and exploring. The Scottish tablet was a fun touch! Breakfast in the morning was perfect as well! Hayley and Trev have thought of every detail!

Tips:

Make a reservation for dinner if you plan on eating at a restaurant. They get busy!

17th July 2024:

The owners are lovely friendly people who make you feel really welcome. The property is finished to a really high standard, borne out by their 5 star rating. I stayed in their compact single room, which was a cosy wee haven for my stay. Breakfast was nice too, and hosted in a room with a view of beautiful Loch Linnhe and the mountains beyond. I've stayed at Ashburn House before, and if I stay in Fort William again they're sure to be at the top of my list. Recommended.

Tips:

Fort William is in some location, a stunning part of Scotland. Only a few minutes walk from Ashburn House the town centre has lots of options for dining and has great transport links via road and rail, including the iconic Hogwarts Express line seen in the Harry Potter films, and if lochs and mountains are your thing, wow!

Hayley and Trev, this was the best bed and breakfast experience we have ever had, starting with your warm welcome and the daily friendly encounters we had with you. The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable beds. The view of Loch Linnhe was outstanding. The continental breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. Your location to the town centre is a very easy walk.

Tips:

The town centre is for pedestrians only, no car traffic. The town centre has a number of very good eating places, we liked The Tavern, friendly manager and staff. There are two types of boat tours on Lock Linnhe and the Mountain Gondola ride to the top of the Ben Nevis range is worth the trip. You can take walking trails at the top of the mountain range.

I would highly recommend staying at Ashburn House. Hayley and Trev (our hosts) made the trip so memorable by adding a very special touch of birthday cake and card for my husband's birthday. The rooms and bed was super comfortable. Location was perfect. Views over the Loch stunning. Absolutely nothing negative about this place. Really loved it. We stayed for 4 nights, will be returning.

Tips:

The boat trip to Seal Island was great, saw dolphins and seals. Interesting commentary, comfortable boat. Jacobite steam train with afternoon tea was a real treat, you can also take the regular train from Fort William to Mallaig. Trip to the Ben Nevis mountain range and gondola trip was worth a visit too. The local cinema and cafe is worth a visit. Enjoyed the food in the Tavern and Cafe Mango. Didn't get to eat in the Geograph as queue was too long. Overall a great place. We didn't take the car, so one thing to note there is no public transport on a Sunday, but we managed to swop things around without any issues, although Hayley had offered to take us if we were stuck! Fantastic.

We were so happy with our choice of accommodation in Fort William. Absolutely faultless and would definitely stay here again. Lovely modern room with lots of nice touches and amenities.

Tips:

Restaurants were generally very busy and we found that Wetherspoons was actually a good option! It was also at the nearest end of the high street to the B&B so quite handy if the weather is inclement. Steall waterfalls is lovely place but make sure you check the bus times as they seem to be ‘vague’ and phone reception at the falls to get a taxi is very patchy. Luckily we managed to get a lift back to FW with a kind local. Ben Nevis is an amazing feat and is a must - but don’t underestimate how challenging it is on the body.

This was our first visit to Scotland after a recommendation from a work friend we took her advice and started our journey in West Kilbride then onto Fort William where we spent three beautiful nights at Ashburn house we could not have ask for a better B/B. The location is absolutely stunning the view from our bedroom was truly incredible we had the perfect view of the Loch , the room was lovely you could see that a lot of love when into the design of the room , but want made our stay extra special was the host Hayley she was so friendly and helpful lots of tips on where to visit etc ,the breakfast is continental but it was fresh and always enough choices to satisfied us, we definitely save the best to last. Thank you Hayley & Trevor

Tips:

Spice Tandoori is the perfect place for a lovely Indian meal , we also eat at a hidden gem the Aroma café which is a coffee shop and Chinese restaurant don't be fooled by the look of the place this was our best meal the food is amazing

Warm and friendly welcome. Plenty of parking. Beautiful gardens (even in the rain). Stunning location overlooking Loch Linnhe and the Yacht Club and only a five-minute walk into town. Very clean accommodation with lovely decor - a mix of traditional Scottish with a modern and stylish twist. Lovely room with extra facilitates (access to a fridge and hairdryer). Welcome gift of homemade 'tablet'. Well equipped ensuite shower room with a powerful shower and the bed was extremely comfortable. Continental breakfast was varied and plentiful. Highly recommend the homemade jams! The only negative thing which was through no fault of the hosts was the temporary unavailability of the Wi-Fi which the hosts worked very hard to rectify. Would give this 9.9 out of 10 if possible.

Tips:

Afternoon tea at the former West End hotel (sorry I can't remember the new name but it's on the corner at the bottom of Lundavra Road). The Highland Soap Company near Old Inverlochy Castle is worth a visit. Lovely showroom and cafe. Plus the amenities of Fort William and access to the stunning scenery and activities provided by the landscape and terrain.

We had a lovely stay at Ashburn House for four nights to kick off our Scotland adventure. Ashburn House was our base as we made day trips throughout the region to see some interesting sights. The continental breakfast every morning was a treat with baked goods, some prepared by our hostess Hayley, and plenty of coffee to wake me up for the day. The bed was very comfortable. En suite facilities are modern. The view out the window from our room was delightful. We were very happy with our experience at Ashburn House.

A lovely location with stunning loch views. Within easy strolling distance to the town. Unfortunately at the current time, a full cooked breakfast is not offered, but Haley’s version of a continental breakfast was great!

Tips:

Don’t miss the West Highland Museum! It is a gem. Consider taking the train past the Glen Finnan viaduct to the coast. You can do the Jacobite Train, the Harry Potter Train or just the regular service train. All use the same route.

A very enjoyable stay. A little bit of noise from the road, but the view was worth it! I had mentioned the trip was for my Husband's birthday, and Hayley made some lovely cakes for him. Such a personal touch, along with a card and balloon. I had also made a bedding request which was kindly met. Lovely people, beautiful setting and great facilities.

Tips:

We only had a short time in Fort William as we had booked the railway trip, but the local museum in the town is well worth a visit. Most of the shops and eateries were closed for the Queen's funeral when we arrived so not many opportunities to sample food etc.

The host Hayley was very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious and very comfortable as was the bed and we both slept very well. Breakfast was plentiful with a huge variety to chose from. It was the little touches in the room that made so lovely. Homemade fudge, plenty of tea and coffee available and body products from a local company, which you can buy either from the B&B or the shop in town. We would definitely stay here again next time we visit Fort William.

Tips:

Great location. 20 min walk from train station. 10 min walk from town. On the main bus route.plenty of places to eat and the food is good. Fort William is a walkers/climbers paradise but if you are looking for something a bit more gentle that a boat trip on the Loch or a train ride to Mallaig are all worth it

This B&B was an absolute highlight of our two week trip around Scotland. We had a stunning room in Asburn House, which had a bay window and stunning views over the Loch. The room was huge and extremely comfortable, which was welcome after lots of walking! The facilities were spotless and had everything we could ever need. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and made every effort to make sure we were comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and there were many choices - ideal if you're planning any big walks the next day! It felt like we were welcomed into the family home but also were granted privacy and our own (very large) space. We couldn't speak highly enough of this fantastic B&B. It also had dedicated parking and was easy to find!

Tips:

Our favourite restaurant in the Fort William area is the Ben Nevis Inn - we've eaten there 3 times over 7 years and each time it had been friendly, welcoming, warm and cosy - and the food is delicious.

Without doubt the best B & B we have stayed in. The owners couldn’t do enough for you. The advice of places to visits actually helped me change some of the places I was intending to go to. The breakfasts were incredible with a view from the dining room to match. What a great place to stay to explore the Highlands. We stayed 2 nights , wish it was more. We will be back next year that’s for sure , my only worry, it’s that good , they will get booked up pretty quickly.

Tips:

Garrison West . Fab restaurant in Fort William. Glenfinnan Viaduct about 30 mins drive . ( worth the drive to Mallaig from the viaduct. Views were stunning. Loch Ness about 1 1/4 hours. Glencoe about 45 mins drive. Worth a visit to Isle of Mull. Get the Corran Ferry about 5 miles south of Ashburn House . On the other side drive through stunning scenery to Lochaline to get another ferry (18 mins on ferry). On Mull drive 8 miles to Tobermory. Saw Golden Eagles , Seals , Otters and by all accounts which we didn’t see there were two Minkhe Whales in the Sound of Mull.

Excellent accommodation. Our room had everything you needed. Wardrobe space, drawer space and case stand. Large tray for footwear which is ideal. Nice to be able to make a cup of tea or coffee in your room. Loved the tablet. Large very comfortable bed which is a real bonus. Exceptional cleanliness throughout. Amazing breakfasts with plenty of choice. Due to COVID restrictions everything needs to be ordered and is served at your table. (Blueberry and strawberry waffle was delicious.) On site parking which is another bonus. Highly recommend a stay here.

Tips:

About a ten minute walk to the town centre. (Depending on how quickly you walk.) Lots of restaurants which were all very busy when we were there so probably best to book in advance. The Stables was excellent for food although service was slow. The Geographer is also good however they don’t take bookings so it’s a case of waiting outside until they have a table free. The Jacobite steam train was an enjoyable trip. The Ben Nevis mountain gondolas was worth the wait to get on. Fantastic views.

Such a warm welcome by the host and a lovely newly refurbished room. The whole place was immaculately clean and smelt lovely.

Tips:

Food - Restaurants get very busy at peak times so remember to book, although we found that many places don’t allow you to book and you have to wait in a queue. One place turned us away at 8pm saying they were unlikely to get to serve us. Car rental - Do this is advance. We tried to book a car for a day or two but there was nothing available for a two weeks.

Tips:

Fort William is beautiful but eating out is problematic. Booking is a must. It seems that the numbers of visitors far exceed the number of places on offer. Ben Nevis is a paradise for hikers. The Jacobite steam train is a memorable mini adventure.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything was just perfect, the room, the location and the view of the Loch from our room no1. It was our wedding anniversary and Hayley put some special treats in our room. Breakfast was delicious served on warm plates. Croissant was fresh with nice choice of fresh jams. If we are ever up this way, would not even consider staying anywhere else.

Tips:

We came up especially to go on The Jacobite train which didn’t disappoint. We had the cream tea in First class carriage and couldn’t finish it as there were so many cakes in it. We also did the 10am cruise around the Loch with lovely view of Ben Nevis. Great views from the Nevis gondola.

Our room was lovely..we paid a premium for room 5 so I would have beena little disappointed if it had been anything less. It was clear to me that a lot of thought had gone Into every detail. And it shows. So many things to mention…lovely bed linen and towels, lovely bathroom, lovely local soap products, fudge in the room (yum!), spotlessly clean windows enhancing the views, the mirror fronted wardrobe enhanced the spectacular view, fridges for guest use-such a thoughtful addition, lovely seating area in the evening sun at the front overlooking the water. Pretty garden planting. Breakfast maintained the high standard, the quality of the food was noticeable, lovely croissant, bacon and sausage. (These items can often be cheap and poor quality). Really lovely experience, good luck with your venture Hayley!

At every point during the day Hayley and Trevor were to help and accommodate us, they even made our photographer coffees and surprised us with some little wedding gifts and cake! Lovely, pristine guesthouse on the waterfront with beautiful garden and surroundings. Cross over the road and you have a lovely wee pebbly beach at the shore of Loch Linnhe It's a pleasant 10 minute stroll to the centre of Fort William The room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. Perfect for a good night's sleep after a hard day traversing the local glens. The breakfast room faces onto the loch and the hills beyond. The hosts were lovely, very friendly and made our stay at Ashburn house great in every way. Highly recommended

Tips:

Walks - Ben Nevis of course, but there are countless other walks with dramatic views. Glen Coe cannot be missed and the five hour walk including the hidden valley can be quite strenuous in places but worth it. Eating out - The Ben Nevis Inn and Bunkhouse at the start of Ben Nevis serves superb local Scottish dishes with a real focus on quality at very reasonable prices. Seek out the Cullen skink as one of the best soups ever and just the thing after a long walk. Bars - there are a few with great local ales, including the Tavern in Fort William centre. Our Favourite during our stay here was the Black Isle bar serving its own organic ales and cider along with wood fired pizza.

Thank you Hayley and Trev for a very comfortable, very refreshing stay. Loved the short walk to town lochside (train station also no problem). delicious breakfast! and loved the evening cookies. Perfect Fort William stay.

Tips:

5-min taxi from the train station or 20 min walk. Center of town a 15-min walk. Situated right on A82 so easy to navigate to points north or south. Dinner at The Tavern two nites in a row- very good menu and friendly service- must book the day before (during August).

This was the nicest bed and breakfast that we stayed in during our 2 week visit to Scotland. The location was perfect. It was a short walk into town, yet not right in the middle of the tourist area. The hosts helped us plan two spectacular hikes and wonderful dinner suggestions. The room was large and very comfortable. I loved the heated towel rack. The breakfasts were terrific. I would not say any place else if in Fort William.

Eating out is such an individual thing... however the food at Brown's was by far the best quality but more formal & more money than The Ben Nevis Inn. We would recommend both. My hosts are lovely people. Christine made me excellent French toast every morning, and the view on the water was hypnotic. I've stayed at the Ashburn House several times and am always grateful for the welcome and friendly chatter. Some B&Bs still feel like a sterile hotel, but this house is like a home.

Tips:

Sugar & Spice offers excellent Thai curries for dinner from Thursday through Sunday. A nice day trip is taking the train to Mallaig, where there is a Circular Walk that is good for low-impact hikers. Another good low-impact walk is the path to the Inverlochy castle ruins.

Very warm welcome. Knowledgeable about the local amenities. Lots of info in the room on what to do and visit. Lovely house and very tasteful decorated. Great views.

Tips:

As all other restaurants were fully booked and could even take on a single person, I ended going to the great glen pub/red to run by Wetherspoon. It was really busy and buzzing. Against expectations food was good and staff really friendly. Good value for money.

What a wonderful place to stay on our quick visit to Fort William. Such nice hosts and the quality of everything was excellent. The breakfast was very nice and the view was amazing. Not one bad word to say about this place, it was perfect!!

one of the best B & B in the area run by a nice couple. I couldn't ask more. Thank you.

Tips:

If you get to drive yourself to Loch Ness, you should go using A82 to Inverness, enjoy both Loch Ness and Inverness, and try to come back using A852 (General Wade's Millitary Road). Some portion of the road is a single lane and requires attention, but it was very scenic and gave us unique experience.

This is a wonderful place to stay with kind and knowledgable hosts. Who extend themselves to make you comfortable. The house is lovely and breakfast delicious. We have been twice and would return in a heartbeat.

Tips:

Great location as town is close enough for easy walking. Great location for hiking in Glen Nevis or Glencoe area. Glencoe is spectacularly beautiful. Only negative is that there is not a great deal available for vegetarians, for dinner. Hard to find a variety of dinner choices. And the Indian restaurant in the middle of town had the worst Indian food I have ever eaten. But for non vegetarians there are surely many more options.

Received a very friendly and warm reception. Beautiful room, lovely decorated and spotlessly clean. High standard bathroom. The breakfast was fantastic. Next time we will spend more time here than only one night, that we highly regret not having done!

Tips:

One has to visit the restaurant Lime Tree in Fort William. We went there due to recommendation of William MacDonald. What incredible food we got to eat, culinarily surely the highlight of our 2 week holiday in Scotland! We highly enjoyed these things from the menue: -Twice cooked Belly of Duroc Porc (main) -Loch Awe River Trout (main) -Highland Cannelloni (starter) The next morning we took the Jacobite steam train to Mallaig and back - was great!

5th June 2016:

While we were too late booking to reserve a loch-view room, the room we stayed in (#5) had a lovely view of garden and the Border Collies playing in their yard up the hill. Hosts assigned us a loch-view table in Breakfast Room, which was a treat! Food was served graciously and promptly - was hot and cooked as requested. Entire property was beautifully maintained, and just a short walk from center of Fort William. Recommendations for restaurants were very accurate and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

Tips:

Willie (Host) recommended Crannog Restaurant on City Pier for seafood - excellent!, Lime Tree Restaurant for fine dining - also excellent food, but service was a bit less than perfect; for a Pub - we went to Grog and Gruel - food was quite good, and staff very friendly. Glenfinnan Monument was shrouded for repairs, so don't plan to see it unless check ahead. Spean Bridge WWII Monument is a MUST see, and we enjoyed Old Inverlochy Castle ruins, St. Andrew's Church in Fort William, and St. Mary and St. Finnan Church - just past the Glenfinnan Monument. Drive just a mile or so more after St. Mary's Church to see a single WWI Soldier by the side of the road with a memorial plaque on the back of the monument - very moving sight! Finally, check out the West Highland Museum in middle of town - free (donations appreciated), and full of information you won't find anyplace else. Friendly volunteers run it.

Tips:

Avoid the Wetherspoons franchise bar/restaurant in town like the plague! We cannot express enough how terrible the place is! The Tavern is a great place for simple, delicious food, and the service is great! Do the steam train to Mallaig,(that is the name of a bagpipe tune, BTW!) it is the "Harry Potter" train, and is wonderful a to spend a few hours. The West Highland Museum is a free exhibit that has quite the collection, and is a nice way to learn about the local events in various times of history in the highlands.

We were really pleased with our choice of Ashburn House. As frequent travellers we can be quite 'picky' over standards of accommodation, however Ashburn exceeded or expectations. We were delighted by the quality of decor and furnishings and how well it is all maintained. Room 1 was a real delight with it's space and views, the only improvement I can suggest is a down duvet which we had in our next 2 accommodations. Breakfasts were super, especially the kippers. I have posted a very positive review on Trip Adviser. Thank you

Tips:

We enjoyed both the Lime Tree and the restaurant on the pier, do encourage guests to book as the are likely to be disappointed otherwise. We were rather disappointed with other choices in town.

Our stay at the Ashburn was the highlight of our trip! The room was impecable and felt like home. We didn't have a better breakfast anywhere else during our whole two week stay on London/Scotland. I would go back just for their oatmeal! The bed was more comfortable then one we have at home!

Tips:

Perfect location near the town and Jacobite steam train. Overlooks the water and very picturesque. Loved every minute of it:)

We loved Ashburn House. We were made to feel very welcome, our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, the location was great and the breakfasts were beautifully presented and nicely cooked.

Tips:

It's very convenient for the town, about 20 minutes walk, if that. There are a variety of places to eat out and Christine and Willie will give you guidance and provide sample menus. It's a good base for exploring and lovely to head back to at the end of the day.

We stayed in Room No 1 and we couldn't have been happier with the cleanliness of the room and the view. The room was so lovely. We loved the fact that it had a tea pot and a good selection of soaps and even a thoughtful batch of cotton wool! As tiny as these details are, it does make a difference when you are away from home and shows that the B&B cares about their guests. The binoculars were also a lovely touch!

Tips:

We followed your advice and went to Sugar and Spice for our evening meal which was great. The staff there were so friendly and the food was lovely. If visitors wanted to get out of Fort William for the day, we had a great drive through Loch Lomand and the Glencoe Mountain Range. All in all, we can't wait to come back!

21st May 2015:

Beautiful home with a spectacular view. The owners couldn't have been more gracious or helpful. Much nicer than any of the hotels in town (and I've stayed in several). The location on the main road is a little noisy in the day but traffic shuts down completely at night and there is no noise problem that affects sleep. Breakfast was beautifully prepared and served. Try the fruit with yoghurt - you won't believe the presentation.

Tips:

You need to be willing to walk just a bit to get to the main part of town (a quarter to half a mile each way depending on where you want to go) - not a problem if you have a car but could be an issue for non-walkers. The railroad station is completely at the other end of town so you'll need a taxi to get there if you don't have a car. Taxis are easy to get and cost about 3 pounds.

We booked online and were delighted to find that Ashburn House was exactly what we needed - walking distance from the town centre, easy to find, plenty of parking, very helpful owners and a wonderful breakfast. A definite b&b to recommend and revisit.

Tips:

Fort William is a great place to arrive by train - we used the sleeper from London. Local car hire was readily available from Fort William Car Hire. A good place from which to explore the Ben Nevis range and western isles and to stock up on walking gear - several outlet shops. Very helpful information shop on High Street with walking maps etc for sale. All museums etc closed on Sunday - not unreasonably!

This was the best B&B we have stayed in, and we've stayed in quite a few. Despite turning up a bit worse for wear after 12 hours of cycling, we were welcomed, given somewhere secure to store our bikes then shown to our lovely room. A special effort was made to ensure my husband had something to eat for breakfast, to accommodate his restricted diet - it was not a problem. The porridge was the best I've had (and set me up for another day cycling!). The location is convenient but surprisingly peaceful despite being just off the A82. If we go to Fort William again we will be staying here!

Lovely, with a warmly welcoming hostess in Christine. We're sure Willie is great too but we didn't get to meet him!

Tips:

Great location just ten minute's walk to city centre and only slightly farther to the train station where it's easy to do a day trip to Mallaig or connect to Glasgow.

25th February 2014:

Christine & Willie are the perfect hosts, they are friendly and happy to chat to you about your plans during your stay. This was our third stay at Ashburn House and it will not be our last. It is quiet, peaceful and comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean. The food is fabulous, whether you have the Highland breakfast or the fresh fruit platter, you will not be disappointed.

Tips:

Local places for food in the evening, The Ben Nevis Bar & The Tavern are both worth a visit. Or you could try The Lock Inn at Fort Augustus, which was first class.

30th November 2013:

I had a lovely stay at Asburn House. I had booked a single room but on arrival late evening on the 21st November, I was shown into a big and very beautiful double room. It was great to have so much space and the view was fantastic. Christine welcomed me warmly and did everything to make me feel good during my stay. On my departure day, the pre-booked taxi did not show up and I was late for the bus to Skye, but Christine quickly solved that problem. Ashburn House is definitely a place to return to... highly recommended.

15th October 2013:

The single room was snug and convenient and had a lovely view of the water. The bed was comfortable and the mattress not lumpty. Since I stayed a week, I would have liked to have a few drawers instead of piling the stuff in bags and on the desk. The closet and it's shelves are fine for a weekend, but not for longer. I understand that plans are under way to redo this room, so perhaps additional storage space is on the list. The people were friendly and helpful at all times.

Tips:

The Carvery has nice sandwiches. The Sugar & Spice Cafe had lovely Thai food in the evenings. I dined there twice on my trip. I did NOT like the Food Spot at the Alexandria Hotel. The Spicy Bean sandwish was not spicy and had maybe three beans in the deep-fried patty. The staff was friendly, but there were so many that I couldn't figure out who was responsible for me.

The owners are friendly and welcoming. The rooms spacious and clean with wonderful views of the loch. Welcoming coffee was lovely, and the (home made, I'm sure) shortbread delicious. Breakfast was scrumptious, and more than we could eat. Thoroughly recommended.

Tips:

The Grog and Gruel pub serves some superb local beers, although it's busy, and basic. The Crannog seafood is to die for, but booking almost certainly required.

Christine & Willie, thank you so much for a very welcoming and relaxing stay. It was just what I needed before and after my walk up Ben Nevis. Nothing seemed too much for either of you. The room was great and the breakfast superb. Thanks for the packed lunch on the Friday morning due to my very early start. It was greatly appreciated. Once again thanks for everything. Mark.

Tips:

Stay here. Did not try the restaurants but there is a good selection to suit all tastes. Tried quite a few bars. All were reasonably priced and within no more than a 10 minute walk. Information Centre on the high street will have what you need to know about walks and watersports in the area.

We thought it was lovely - really nice room, furnished well and with care. We were happy to spend a bit of time in the room as the chairs were nice, overlooking the loch and the radio, tea facilities and Tv were all used at rest times! breakfast was also great - the most lovely choice of anywhere we have stayed for a while, with particularly good scones and jam!

Tips:

We liked Fort William and found plenty to do and see. We liked some of the bars in town in the evening, and particularly enjoyed an indian meal at Spice Tandoori (although we really didn't like the chinese the following night!). We really liked the multi-national feel of Fort William, with people from all over Europe in particular around after a days walking.

I loved our stay in Ashburn House, the house and our bedroom were charming, and our hosts quite nice and willing to help. The location was superb, in front of the loch, and just a short walk from Fort William. Breakfast was delicious, and full of different choices, that foreigners like us were not able to appreciate in it's full, as we are not used to eat so much in the morning! But the freshly baked scones and the lovely fruit plate were greatly appreciated!

10th April 2012:

The location was beautiful, it is truly awesome view. A fine place to relax away from a busy city environment. Room was perfect, very clean, nice large bed on suite facilities. It is so peaceful and calm, a place to really relax and recharge yourself. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very nice indeed, specially the home made scones…we will definitely be going back for more of those. I will absolutely recomend this for anyone who is looking to relax or have an active holiday...it suits both....the choice is yours.

Tips:

Pack for a Scottish summer. There were not enough restaurants which do good food. Most of the restaurants offer good view but lack in good food. The high street is of a village/town type. A number of pubs/restaurants. By-the-way…Dot go to Ben Nevis pub…the food is awful! I ordered a steak...the lady came back with...what taste like cat meat! Go to ‘Cruachan Hotel’ the food and services are great. Friendly staff and the food are to a good standard and varied to meet most people. There is a highland museum, which is good…We liked it. A brief history of the local surroundings. But this location can be for two types of people...Ones who just want to eat/drink and go for long walks by the lake. the other is for people who want to go sailing and climbing...to have an active holiday/break.

It was great staying at Ashburn House. It was truly an unforgettable experience. The place itself, and especially the room was really cozy. Christine was an amazing host, making sure every detail was just perfect. There's no doubt we will recommend Ashburn House and whenever we go back to the Highlands we will definitely stay there. Thanks for everything.

Tips:

We didn't really visit Fort William, as we were coming back from Inverness and the Eilean Donan Castle and we arrived late. We had dinner at the nevis bank hotel and food was really good. My tip to other travelers... if they have time, go to Eilean Donan and/or Glen Coe. The place and especially the road/scenery is just marvelous.
