My second visit this year and would definitely recommend it to others. Great location, great facilities and Neil and Katy clearly put their all into ensuring the guest house is comfortable for all. Neil is very knowledgeable about the area and gave us plenty of tips for castle stops for the long drive home.

Tips:

Theres a quarry along the road with a lovely walk through a gorgeous pine forest.

We had two rooms for three days. We felt extremely welcome. Rooms were clean and well equipped. Breakfast overwhelming with large portions of different egg-dishes in addition to cereal, drinks, jam and lovely tea and coffee. Niel met us each morning and each afternoon with a friendly greeting and good advices of how to make our stay even more enjoyable. We strongly recommend this nice B&B. We would love to come back sometime.

We had the nicest 2-night stay with Neil, Katya, and Mila. Our family suite was clean, cozy, and well-appointed, and our teens loved the bunk beds! Breakfasts were cooked to perfection and delicious, and we started our days with happily full bellies. We were greeted on arrival with recommendations for local restaurants, nearby walks, and updates on the ever-changing Glencoe weather. All in all, a wonderful experience and wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend!

There are several restaurants nearby, some within walking distance and others that are a short drive away (better to book in advance or online before you arrive) There is also a small supermarket(Co Op) a few minutes walk from the B & B.

The perfect Bed & Breakfast. The rooms are wonderful and the bed a joy to sleep on. Neal, the host, was very helpful with giving tips for lovely walks in the area. I completely loved my stay here and would certainly come back to this B&B. Highly recommended!

Tips:

There are different walks you can take in the area, not to difficult for when you are not a trained walker like me ;) The Lochan Trail near Glencoe village is a beautiful walk. Also the walk at the Glencoe visitor centre is well worth it! You can also take a short walk at the Ballachulish Peninsula with a beautiful view on Loch Leven. Across the street there is a restaurant, when it's closed at monday and tuesday, there is also a nice take away restaurant around the corner where you can eat pizza and fish and chips. Very good! Ballachulish is a nice place to stay when you want to explore the Glencoe Area.

Lovely guest house. The guest house was extremely clean and well maintained. Neil and Katya are very welcoming and helpful. I couldn't of asked for better hosts. The breakfasts were great, a nice varied selection to choose from. We stayed here primarily to hike Ben Nevis. Which is about 30 minutes down the road. The majority of the hotels in Fort William were overpriced and this guest house was reasonably priced for the time of year. It's worth stating in Glencoe to avoid paying high hotel costs.

Tips:

The pub and restaurant directly over the road serves lovely food. Make sure you hike Ben Nevis. It takes around 6-7 hours to complete. It's worth it.

This was our second stay at Strathassynt and both times were excellent. We would 100% stay again and fully recommend to anyone looking to stay in the Glencoe region. Impeccably clean, with the best breakfast we had in Scotland, an excellent family room, and wonderful location, very walkable. Additionally, Neil and Katya are lovely hosts who truly care for you and work to make your stay comfortable in every way.

Tips:

We love the many walks available in the area - a few hour long hikes start right in the village. There is a co-op conveniently located a minute's walk away. Additionally, the Stiff Peaks Bakery was a treat, with take-away lunch that we enjoyed in the park, and we highly recommend the Laroch restaurant just across the street (just be sure to reserve in advance!).

Neil, Kata, and Mila are wonderful and kind hosts. We had an unfortunate flat tire situation almost 100 miles outside of Glencoe making our arrival time unpredictable. Neil, realizing, we were tourists, barely familiar with the small town we were stranded in, got on the phone with us multiple times with advice on what to do next and check if we are ok. He stayed on the phone with us until he was sure we were safe, given the weather and that the tire situation wasnt going to be resolved anytime before 10pm, we ended up checking into a hotel in the town and cutting short our Strathasynnt stay by a night. Something we will regret given what a beautiful and warm space the family has created and the hiker’s paradise Glencoe is. The room and bathroom is comfortable and well appointed, the breakfasts are attentive and filling. Our 5 year loved hanging around in the common room where there were games, books, toys to keep kids of all ages busy. Thank you!

We spent 3 nights at Strathassynt. Neil and Katya are very warm and welcoming. The accommodations lacked nothing. The bed was super comfortable, the room itself was spacious enough for 2 persons and luggage. Super clean. They offered several hot breakfast selections along with a variety of fruit, cereals, yogurts. The coffee was very good as well. The village is beautiful and there is a short 2 mile walk just across the street at an old quarry. Easy to get to other nearby villages by car and bus.

We really enjoyed our stay! The rooms and bathroom were clean, nicely appointment and looked recently renovated! The breakfast was lovely. Neal provided some hiking recommendations as well as dinning recommendations!

Tips:

We enjoyed the Glen Lochan trail in town. Then we went to the Glencoe Visitors Center for the Forrest road hike (about 7mile roundtrip), not the most exciting hike but the views at the top are great! Then we headed to the Tree Sisters car park to and explored that area. Definitely would take 2 days to fulling experience all the hiking.

Neil & Katya who run the Guest House are a lovely couple who really put an effort in everything they do. Everywhere was spotlessly clean & most important a lovely breakfast. We only had a 2 night stay but would return there next time we visit Scotland

Tips:

Do go over the road to Laroch Restaurant excellent food at a fairly reasonable price. They get busy so it is advisable to book. Over the road too is a nice little walk through the old slate quarry with boards explaining the history very interesting

19th September 2023:

This is a lovely little B&B, the rooms are very clean and very well equipped for a small guest house. The hospitality tray in each room had far more tea and coffee stocked than at most regular hotels, there were charging points galore for phones, tablets and computers. The beds were comfortable and the general decor was bright and modern. The breakfast provided was really nice with a good selection on offer, and even though I didn't have them myself the pancakes looked immense.

Tips:

Ask the proprietor, he has a vast array of local knowledge and is happy to give suggestions and ideas. The area is stunning, with a multitude of low and high level walks of varying degrees of strenuousness. For Harry Potter fans the Glenfinnan viaduct is a short drive away, there's opportunities for water based sports on the Loch, indoor climbing at Kinlochleven for those really wet days and a variety of other activities for the whole family. A trip to the Clachaig Inn at Glencoe is a must for anyone visiting the area.

We stayed four days at Strathassynt Guest House. Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Neil and given a detailed explanation of our stay. You can choose from four different breakfasts every day. Each of these options is very well done, although mastering the pancakes is a major challenge. The beds are comfortable, the internet works well, there is free parking and there is no street noise. This was by far the best place to stay on our fourteen-day tour of Scotland. PS: Neil's quips were a pleasant touch

My wife and I loved staying at the Strathassynt Guest House. Conveniently located in Ballachulish, the Guest House was a springboard to countless local hiking trails. The room was comfortable and spotless. The renovated bathrooms were very nice, and the mattress was just right. Breakfast was great too. But the best part about Strathassynt was Neil and Katya. They were friendly and approachable, and they truly care about their guests’ well being and satisfaction. The whole experience was the highlight of our holiday in Scotland.

Tips:

We only ate dinner at a couple places, but the Laroch restaurant across the street was solid, and the Lochleven Seafood Cafe was awesome (thanks Neil and Katya). Just so many hiking opportunities to mention, but for sheer beauty on an easy hike, don’t miss Glencoe Lochan. It is simply stunning.

This Guest House is amazing. I think the cleanest accommodation I have ever stayed in. Neil, the host and owner, made us feel so welcomed, provided us some great tips/recommendations and had great conversation. The Guest House was full with guests, yet incredible quiet, which is exactly what we were looking for. A true home away from home - loved it! They even have a drying room to house all of your wet and mucky gear from a day of hiking.

Tips:

The Glencoe area is incredible. Buachaille Etive Beag is a great hike to tackle. A great way to get elevation quickly to a stunning ridge line. There is so much to see, just take your time and take it all in. Downloaded the Walk Highlands app - it's fabulous and you can download maps and information offline for those who don't have service.

Friendly and helpful owners, running a great clean, comfortable, & cosy B&B. Tasty breakfast plus biggest pancakes ever!! (Almost a little too big haha ;-) could probably do with just one and then some fruit, syrup & yogurt on top etc - just a thought). Thanks for a great stay. We would not hesitate to book again, very happy customers.

Tips:

The Laroch pub (opposite the B&B) serves very good food. A walk to the Ballachulish Peninsula is nice, good views, not too taxing. Glen Coe and Glen Etive are very busy places! Both are beautiful but can get crowded. Glen Etive is a very narrow, winding road with passing places now and again, you need to be able to reverse! Not one for nervous drivers! Plus you have to turn around at the end and come back the same way, so double fun (challenging).

Very good facilities, property has been renovated over a period of time. Rooms, and the environment as a whole has a modern, clean look. Off street parking available. Scenic location, situated between Glencoe and Fort William. Rooms are not made up daily, per their COVID policy, but fresh towels and anything else needed can be provided on request. Note also that payment is taken at the start of the stay, rather than at the end.

Tips:

Not so much activities in Ballachulish locality itself but just 15 mins drive from Fort William. We were just passing through, but popular with hikers and bikers, there are trails for both. Ft William is starting point for the Jacobite excursion (Harry Potter train). Plenty of restaurants there across multiple cuisines, but may need to book tables if your stay is in summer as it gets very busy. Some operate a first come, first serve policy.

Tips:

The guest house is an amazing location. You can stroll to the nearby quarry or the peninsular for a scenic walk, or you're not a far drive from some amazing hikes and views such as the Glenfinnan viaduct or Hagrid's Hut filming spot (for the Harry Potter fans!).

Thanks again for a fantastic few days! We really couldn't have asked for more - great location, super breakfasts, well equipped and comfortable rooms, all alongside the finest hospitality and local knowledge.

Tips:

You'll want to eat at least once in the Laroch restaurant across the road but will need to book in advance. Otherwise, the local knowledge of the proprietors will be able to help with good recommendations. Location is perfect just off the A82, around a 30 minute drive to Fort William for Ben Nevis and you're already surrounded by other trails and hills if you prefer to stay more local. There's a co-op shop that'll sell all the provisions you might need just behind the guest house and fuel stations within 5 minutes drive in either direction. Overall the guesthouse is fantastic, 10/10.

It was a delight to stay at your B&B. Breakfast was delicious and they were both helpful with local activitie ideas. It’s nice to know when you are a solo traveler that someone cares for your wellbeing. So when you go out for a hike someone will know you are missing if you don’t show back up. They provide some great positive vibes. I felt at home there for sure.

5th November 2022:

We had a wonderful time here. Our room was cozy and comfie. Breakfast was delicious (my first introduction to black pudding!). The location was perfect. Travel recommendations were on point. Hard to beat being welcomed with a wee dram on a rainy night at check-in. This was our first time in Scotland and Katya and Neil helped us fall in love with the country by just being so lovely in a way we learned is very Scottish. Circumstances and time, or lack thereof, dictated some difficult decisions about where to go on our trip. We kept hearing about Glencoe and sacrificed some bucket list destinations in order to spend only about 2 full days there. We are so glad we did! Neil gave a couple of tips which turned out to be invaluable (don’t skip Oban, do not miss the scenery, take a particular “short” cut). We followed his advice and as a result, ate the most amazing food and saw the most amazing natural sites. We cannot wait to come back to the Highlands and when that time comes, we’ll be back to Glencoe and Strathassynt House. Thank you, Neil and Katya!

Tips:

Strathassynt House is convenient to everywhere you want to go in the area. Have a car, because driving is the way to see this beautiful area. Even the longer drives are worth the time because of the unbelievable scenery. See the Glenfinnan Viaduct and the Jacobite train. Oban is adorable in its own right, but the Oban Distillery tour is a must do if you’re a scotch drinker (or if you’re not). Nories, also in Oban, has to die for fish and chips and offers a nice intro to haggis (breaded and deep fried, with chips - yummmm).

To enjoy a walk along Loch Linnhe on a cycle route park in the large layby on the right hand side of the road A828 going towards Oban Your walk will take you past loch Linnhe Marina then on to Castle Stalker. By walking a bit further along the path you will come to Jubilee Bridge well worth a visit. If you care to extend the walk Port Appin beckons on the other side

Very comfortable bed, quiet only can hear the birds as had window open, great breakfast. Great stopover as we were heading home from Ullapool. Will definitely stay again on another trip. But it gets booked up so I’ll need to be organised.

Loved this place. Spotlessly clean and room was really comfortable. Owners were kind and had obviously thought a lot about what their guests would want. Good breakfast - pancakes were great. They were able to recommend local places to eat etc. and give us general local info also.

Tips:

There is a pub across the road which does food but unfortunately it was closed on Mon/Tues while we were there so we could not try it, heard it was good though. Hotels in the area were only serving food to residents so we ended up getting takeaway from the local chipper and taking it back to the B&B - the owners were fine about this as long as we ate in the dining room and not in the bedroom, which was fine. There is a supermarket about a minute's walk away for any essentials. Close to main roads etc. and in a beautiful scenic area.

Thank you Neil, Katya and Mila, we had a wonderful stay in your home. Even during a difficult Covid restriction period, we felt welcome and as safe as possible given the circumstances. The location was superb in it's own entity, and for a base from which to sightsee the surroundings. We never left the guest house hungry in the morning to start our daytrips. The pancakes are a winner! Neil and Katja gave us insights of places to visit off the beaten track, which were invaluable to our (sadly) short tour of a small region of the West Highlands. If we venture to Scotland again, Strathassynt Guest House will be in our itinerary.

Tips:

We really enjoyed our drive out to the Ardnamurchan peninsula, and to visit the lighthouse - the drive is a single track so maybe not for the fainthearted driver. Having a coffee at the Glencoe Mountain cafe watching the skiers and snowboarders coming fown towards you was also a highlight. The Isles of Glencoe Hotel offered a beautiful meal sat in the conservatory, watching a lovely sunset over the Loch. We also had a lovely meal at The Ben Nevis Inn, the wee Inn at the foot of the Ben.

Katia and Neil are the perfect hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them to ensure their guests have a great experience. The guest rooms are beautifully furbished and decorated, the bathrooms have been done to an exceptional standard. The lounge area offers relaxation with books, DVDs for the whole family to choose from and comfortable seating. Breakfast is delicious - whatever the choice. Katia's home-made pancakes are legendary. Strathassynt is a covid-safe guest house where all precautions are in place. We are looking forward to our next stay.

Tips:

Even on a rainy day, Lochaber shines with its natural beauty. There are many different walks for all levels (Ballachulish Quarry, Lochan Glencoe, Glencoe Valley walks, Signal Rock woodland walks etc.). The tourist information office is literally a stone throw away from Strathassynt and the National Trust Visitor center in Glencoe is just up the road. Apart from the natural beauty, there is history to be discovered in the many local churches, Glencoe Folk Museum, in Fort William, Glenfinnan, Oban etc. A day trip takes you to Mull or to Eilean Donan Castle - even Loch Ness or Culloden. This time, we enjoyed a guided tour at the National Trust Visitor Centre where we explored the historic turf and creel house which has been built using local materials and excellent craftsmanship. For those who enjoy home-baking, there is the famous 'Crafts and Things' and the Glencoe Cafe in Glencoe Village. And for the evenings, a visit to the Laroch Pub or the Clachaig Inn is a must - friendly service, great music, lovely food.

Tips:

They provided a cooked vegan breakfast for us. There are lots of walks directly from the guest house - beautiful loch, The Pap, the old slate mines. Just a short drive to loads of other locations - Ben Nevis, Glen Etive to name just a couple. Pub opposite, a chip shop, and a co-op supermarket just to the rear of the guest house. The house itself was very quiet and the hosts were very welcoming.

We stayed at the Family Room good for 5 persons which was spotlessly clean with coffee making facilities, TV and a bonus dvd player (a good library of dvds can be loaned from the living room). Modern ensuite toilet and bath was equally clean. Breakfast was excellent and catered for my vegan daughter's request as well :) Free parking within the property, a nearby Coop, fantastic views all around and very attentive hosts! Thanks so much Neil and Katya :)

We had a great time, the place was spotless and we felt very welcome. Breakfast was amazing and we didn't leave hungry! The owners were friendly and happy to offer advice and suggestions about the local area. Some guests returned late at night and were making quite a bit of noise, the owner was straight up the stairs to ask them to be quiet without hesitation which was great.

Tips:

Seafood cafe is a must, food is amazing. The pub across the road is a lovely we pub and the food is also great - The Lorach is I've remembered thay correctly. We visited a few places locally and we particularly enjoyed Mull, we drove around the island and the views were incredible. Fort William had a nice high street with some nice places to eat and unique shops to visit.

Just back from a great stay at the Strathassynt Guest House where we received a warm welcome from hosts Katya and Neil. Neil is a font of knowledge with lots of suggestions for things to see and do and places to eat in the surrounding areas. Breakfast was plentiful with many choices, a terrific start to the day. Our room (5) was a good size, spotless with lovely bathroom, toiletries provided also with tea and coffee facilities. Strathassynt is the best and most friendly guest house we've stayed in. It's ideal in every respect including its scenic location well away from towns. We've stayed there twice and fully intend to return next year.

Tips:

Neil is happy for guests to eat food that has been procured elsewhere in the breakfast room. A good source is the local fish & chip shop. It's only 100 yards away. If you set off early, you can cross the Corran Ferry, head west, and take the Mallaig ferry to Skye where you can spend a few hours before returning by way of the bridge and Fort William. It's a long day, but well worth it.

This is the 2nd time weve stayed here and hoping to return again in sept. Neil and katya are fantastic hosts and nothing is too much trouble. Neil provides great tips on expmoring the area and katyas full scottish breakfasts are delicious.

Tips:

Strathassynt is a great base for exploring the area. We had our 10yr old with us and visited the waterfall in kinlochleven (with a bit of scrambling thrown in which he just loved), glenfinnan viaduct for a harry potter photo, camusdarroch beach n arisaig which is the most stunning beach weve ever visited and had a go on the chairlift and some tubing at glencoe mountain resort. Traveller tip: book restuarants in advance as it can be difficult to get a table. Also, carry cash! twice the card machines went down and its a trek to find an ATM if youve had a beer and cant drive.

This is our second time staying at Strathassynt Guest House and it was just as good as our first stay. Neil and Katya were amazing hosts with a brilliant sense of humour. Great communication with the hosts meant check in and check out was simple. They both have great local knowledge and gave us plenty of tips and advice on things to do in the area. Our room was clean and comfortable with everything we could have possibly needed. They have recently had new bathrooms fitted which were vey nice as well. The breakfasts were delicious. Neil and Katya have worked hard on covid-19 precautions and all relevant measures made us feel extremely safe. We highly recommend staying here and are already planning (another!) return trip :).

The Strathassynt is an excellent guest house. Situated at the southern extremity of the Great Glen, it is surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in the British Isles. It has our unqualified recommendation. Our room was clean and comfortable, our Scottish breakfasts were first class and we really felt at home. Furthermore, Neil had done a magnificent job in ensuring his guests safety in the face of the coronavirus epidemic.

Tips:

The short trip round Loch Leven is a must, as is the longer tour to Moidart, Loch Ailort and Loch Eil. Before you reach the latter you pass through Glenfinnan where you can see a prominent monument to the memory of Charles Edward Stuart. It was there that he gathered his forces to mount his attempt to reclaim the throne for the Stuart dynasty. If you take the northern road along Loch Eil, you can visit Fort William and Ben Nevis on the way back to Ballachulish. On your return you can partake of fish and chips from a shop close to the guest house. Neil is happy for you to consume them in the dining room.

We had an impromptu stay here after France closed due to the Coronavirus. Staff we incredibly welcoming and were deep cleaning everything, going above and beyond. They may not seem the closest to Glencoe but it's the closest village and a great place to stay. Complete with a pier overlooking Loch Leven, a co-op with full opening hours, a gastro pub and a fish and chip shop. The room was great with good beds, coffee facilities and the breakfast menu is spot on. From a full breakfast, pancakes, salmon and more. A great find and highly recommended I marked down on facilities only because the shampoo dispensers in the shower were empty. However, most places don't even provide shampoo. Great B&B! Comfy, clean, pretty and bright room, perfectly situated in the highlands(the drive itself from Edinburgh was a pure beauty). Good breakfast prepared in the morning including a nice chat and recommandations about the area by the owners. Being travellers themselves, they are very good at offering what their guests need and will make their stay as nice as possible. They were very generous and knowledgable, all the places they recommanded were great. We stayed only two nights but would have loved to stay at least a week (if not forever... but let's say 'the Glencoe effect' might have played a part too!).

Tips:

For a very nice accessible hike with just a touch of challenge (wear shoes and clothes accordingly), the Lost Valley trail was lovely, even as the weather was pretty rainy (the rain actually made the stream's current stronger, a pretty impressive sight and sound!). To eat, the Laroch just across the street serves great food for a reasonable price. You might want to book a table since it can get busy. If you're into seafoods and don't mind a 15 minutes drive, the Lochleven Seafood Cafe will serve you the biggest seafood plate you have ever seen! Delicious local meal, no fuss, just the freshest ingredients.

Fabulous b and b, warm welcome, spotlessly clean, lovely room and breakfast menu. Katya's wonderful homemade pancakes and maple syrup were just divine! Neil and Katya were brilliant hosts, very helpful and knowledgeable. Sad to say we only spent one night there as we were just passing through. The area does warrant further exploration though as the scenery is spectacular.

Tips:

We ate at the Loch Leven Seafood Café in the evening, which was about 20mins drive away, though there is a highly rated eatery opposite the b and b. The old quarry is worth a visit and the walk to the top gives spectacular views.

Strathassynt was our very first guest house experience, and we were extremely pleased with our stay there. Our hosts were attentive, gracious and genial at all times; our suite was bright, clean, quiet and comfortable, with thoughtful touches throughout, and the bath modern and well-supplied for our needs. The breakfast was delicious and the offerings well-rounded. We would definitely stay here again if our travels take us back to Glencoe.

Tips:

Must eat at the Lachan Bar & Restaurant just across the way from Strathassynt, it's probably the best food we had during our tour of Scotland. The nearby Welcome Center is lovely and worth a stop...it offers great views, a small circle of easy hikes, a good hiking info desk with maps, and a tasty cafe.

Strathassynt is a fantastic little guest house. Clean and comfortable with an amazing breakfast (Katya's pancakes are so good!) We would absolutely stay again if we are lucky enough to travel back to Scotland someday.

Tips:

We ate dinner at The Laroch right across the street every night. There were 9 of us traveling together, so we could never get seated in the restaurant but they serve the same food in the pub. Out stay at Strathassynt guest house was wonderful! Neil and Katya were both such friendly people and recommended places to visit as well as checking up on us. We passed the check in time but Neil was kind enough to stay up for us. The guest house itself was very clean with plenty of facilities like the lounge (which had a fridge where we could keep some food) and dining area. The breakfast was delicious and had everything you could ask for (particularly the pancakes)! It was an ideal location for our hike to Ben Nevis (30mins drive away). The location itself was beautiful! I would 100% stay here again and have already recommended it to others.

Tips:

In terms of things to do, there is a roundabout about 15minutes from the guest house which had some supermarkets, McDonalds and an arcade and bowling centre. The views themselves are amazing and there’s plenty of stops on the road where you can stop to have a look around. Ben Nevis is only 30mins away. There is also the Glen Nevis chairlift or cable car which is also around 30mins away. Finally, there is also the Aonach Eagach hike which you can also do nearby. In terms of food, there is only a small fridge in the lounge so we brought some food with us and had meals at restaurants along the way to Ben Nevis. There were also some pubs next to the guest house which we have not tried so can’t comment.

Katya and Neil were delightful hosts. After recommending a wonderful restaurant across the street (Laroch) for dinner, we had a seaweed mishap whilst hiking near the loch. On short notice she was able to provide laundry service for a nominal fee. Breakfast included your choice of one of 5 entrees along with a huge breakfast bar... if you leave hungry, it's certainly your fault! All this considering the price, it was a great bargain!

I am looking to find an excuse to return just to experience it all again. No better location for Ballachulish everything in walking distance with plenty of private parking.

Tips:

Village pub with pub grub 2 minutes walk away. As was chip shop come cafe. Also cafe in tourist shop on the corner with a large CO-OP on the doorstep along with an hotel. Other eating places 12 minute walk away on a nice day. Better staying here to visit Ft William which is a 20 min drive away,as you get the slower village atmosphere with shinty matches on the village green etc. Take a walk through the abandoned slate quarry just minutes away for a lovely quiet stroll and feed the ducks, its so peaceful. Golf course along from the Ballachulish Hotel at the loch leven Bridge

We had a nice one night stay in the house. Very clean overall, the hosts were very friendly and welcoming. There are menus for the local restaurants which is very helpful. Very friendly couple who provided us with a home from home experience. We booked 3 rooms in total and they were all extremely comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. We all thought the lounge area was a great facility for us to meet after we had settled in. Checkout was 10am which for a Sunday morning meant an early rise at 8am for us as breakfast was served between 7 and 9am. The option for a slightly later breakfast and checkout on a Sunday morning would be very welcome. Our hosts Neil and Katya were very attentive and we all said we would stay with them again which is a credit to their B&B and their hospitality.

Great location, especially for hiking, and easy to find. Neil and Katya were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Little details such as use of a drying room for wet clothes/boots, and use of a comfortable communal room with books and DVDs were a nice touch. The room and en suite were clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent - loved the pancakes! Overall - fantastic value for money.

Tips:

The Laroch bar and restaurant, just over the road, is well worth a visit, as is the fish and chip shop behind it. There's an interesting walk round the old quarry nearby, and a more strenuous hike up through some beautiful woodland (The Brecklet Trail). There is a Coop supermarket just behind the guest house - quite handy.

Spent 3 nights at Strath Assynt. Neil and his wife were wonderful. Extremely accommodating, helpful and attentive. Can’t say enough great things about our accommodations and our stay in Ballachulish. We highly recommend and plan on returning in the future. BTW...even travel writer and TV host Rick Steves stayed at Strath Assynt while we were there. That says a lot.

Tips:

This is a great location for visiting Glencoe, Ft. William and Oban. Countless hiking trails and mountain biking options. Glencoe cafe, Crafts and Things, and The Laroch (in Ballachulish) are great dining options. Rented mountain bikes for a family of 4 in Glencoe Village and cycled along the Sustrans 78. Beautiful scenery!! Also took a gondola ride up Aonach Mor at Nevis Range Mintain Resort.

We had a wonderful stay at Strathassynt Guest House. Neal and Katya were wonderful hosts - breakfast was delicious, the conversation was nice, and recommendations for what to see and do were appreciated. We had a family room, which was well-appointed and updated, and perfect for our family of 5. The house was walking distance to several pubs and restaurants, as well as a grocery/Co-op. Just down the road from many beautiful Glencoe hikes, and not too far from Oban. We would absolutely recommend d and stay again.

Tips:

There's an excellent t pub and restaurant right across, with outstanding food - not traditional pub fare. The restaurant books up quickly, but the food served is the same both sides, and the pub is space-abailable. We went every night while we were there. Lots of nice hikes through Glencoe within short distance, either driving or walking. Town of Oban (and the distillery) were well worthwhile.

Guesthouse was very pleasant and we were given a warm welcome. Renovation progressing enthusiastically. However, room had a distinct odour on entry - perhaps stale dog? Not sure of source or how to address. Only mention in case not noticed by proprietors, didn’t take long to get used to, though was obvious after leaving and returning to room.

Tips:

Recommend the Laroch pub and restaurant over the road, though be aware it doesn’t serve food in Sunday’s. The Glencoe Gathering, a 5 min drive down the road, is a good alternative - smart and good pub food. All in all, a good base for the Ballachulish Horseshoe of mountains or for exploring Glen Coe itself, with the three sisters, Buchaille Etive Mor and the famous Aonach Eagach Ridge.

Lovely welcome and great location. And they looked after my wife's polar bear which we inadvertently left behind and had to return for!

Great restaurant across the road with michelin starred chef but reasonably priced. And if fully booked in the restaurant the same menu is available in the attached pub. Good beer too.

Easy check-in and out. Friendly hosts. Helpful information binders and movie DVDs in the common room. Tasty, personalized breakfast. Good location to views/hikes. The triple room was perfect for our family of three. (Note the restaurant across the street, The Laroch, does not serve dinner on Mondays.)

We really enjoyed the Glencoe Lochan Trails.

We spent at Strathassynt Guest House one night before driving to Glasgow to catch our flight home. The Guest House was perfect for an overnight stay: the owners were really nice, the breakfast was filling and good with a lot of choice. The location is perfect for someone who wants to see the Glen Coe and then travel to the Highlands or to the Isles. It is a very strategic place in between the mountains and the isles.

Tips:

Ask the owners: they will be able to give plenty of useful information!

6th September 2017:

Welcoming as always, even from new owners. Have stayed here several times before (in same family room in fact). The room had been redecorated to make it more born. Gone was the orange pine, replaced by new pale grey furniture and a sofa. Soft furnishings were very nice too. New floor had just been laid in the shower room on the day we arrived. Breakfast was good, as usual, large selection of cereals, fruits or porridge, followed by a cooked breakfast. Free wifi in rooms. Very good book of places to eat and their menus, things to do, etc. Huge selection of DVD's, games and books to borrow. The only tiny gripe I have is that the tv is tiny and the HDMI connected DVD player under it must have a loose connection between the two because the tv signal was really hit and miss. Had to keep removing and reinserting the HDMI. Maybe needs a better cable!

Tips:

The Laroch pub/restaurant across the road has a Michelin starred chef and it shows in the wonderful menu offered and food served. And, even better, much cheaper than I thought it would be. Was cheaper there compared to some other places for usual meals (eg steak and chips) which I highly recommend as they were were parmesan sweet potato chips. Also the scallops, black pudding and roast pork dish ... although I was surprised at it's size. Other dishes were HUGE portions but the roast pork one was very small for an adult! I wondered if they'd served us a starter portion rather than a main... so query this with them first!

We found Strathassynt to be a good B&B. Neil provided us with a very warm welcome upon our arrival and was always very helpful during our stay. Breakfasts were good and set us up well for our lengthy days of walking. Our rooms were comfortable and clean. The drying room was particularly useful and ensured our coats and boots were thoroughly dried out over night for the start of each day.

Tips:

We found Ballachulish to be a very good location for our walking schedule. There are very many walks to do in the area and we were spoilt for choice. Neil provided us with restaurant suggestions for dinner, all were good, in particular the restaurant at The Holly Tree hotel at Kentallen.

Tips:

The guest house is within easy walking distance of Glencoe village. We found the nearby Ballachulish slate quarry to be interesting, well worth the 30 - 45 minute stroll through the property. If you are interested in getting a real nice meal without traveling far, we would recommend the Laroch Restaurant and Bar across the road from the guest house.

26th April 2017:

We spent three nights in this superb B&B run by a lovely hard working couple Neil and Katya and of course their beautiful 3 year old daughter. This has to be one of the friendliest guest house we have ever visited. We were made so welcome that after three nights, we felt we had made new friends. Always willing to have a chat and very knowledgable of the local surroundings, we spent our evenings in the guest lounge where our hosts often joined us. The rooms have been recently refurbished to a high standard. The beds and pillows were unbelievably comfortable. The en suite was clean and spacious with a good size shower, basin and toilet. Tea/coffee making facilities are available and also, Freeview TV and a DVD player in every room with an extensive DVD library available for those that want. A large library of books is also available if needed. Now for the best part. The breakfasts were just out of this world. A buffet style table was set up with every imaginable cereal available, fruit, yoghurts and tea and coffee. The cooked breakfast was lovingly prepared by Katya and was so vast that we were unable to face anything else to eat until dinner. Eggs (whatever style you want), bacon, sausage, mushrooms, black pudding, tomato and toast. The location was perfect for our touring itinerary although we did deviate once or twice at Neil's suggestion! A beautiful part of the country - Glen Coe. Say no more. Would I go back? You bet. Can't wait.

Tips:

So much to see and do in the area but my best advice would be, if in doubt, ask Neil!

Marvellous. Beautifully refurbished room, fantastically clean and comfortable. Great food, fantastic selection. Friendly and giving. I've never stayed somewhere before where the owners give the genuine feeling they can't do enough for you, but you did.

Tips:

The Laroch is great for an evening meal. You'll need to book for the restaurant, but you can sit in the bar, which I prefer. The Quarry Cafe in the Tourist Information office us cracking for lunch. If you're an experienced hill Walker, do the Pap of Glencoe if it's a clear day. On not do clear days, there's a lovely walk up the side of the river Laroch, past Bheinn Bean and up toward the red hill. Careful when the Laroch is in spate though, as it has to be crossed.

Nice place to stay close to Glencoe, the staff were friendly and a nice place to stay. I thought it was expensive for what I got. More of a Nice hotel price not a B&B. That said, room was nice, b-fast was good and the staff were helpful. They had a large sitting room you can use, with lots of DVD and books you can borrow. Also a few snacks on sale for personnel that are staying, the price of each item seemed very cheap.

Tips:

Great fish and chip shop just around the corner. Nice local pub across the road. Make sure you visit the slate quarry just up the road, well worth walking around. The museum in Glencoe is worth visiting, nice little place with lovely staff. Just watch you head on the very low doors. ( unlike me!!! )

Thank you for your review. We're glad to hear your enjoyed your stay with us. We're sorry to hear you thought it was expensive, and quite surprised as we're one of the most reasonably priced B&Bs in the area, and far cheaper than the local hotels. I think perhaps it seemed expensive because you booked the family room, which sleeps 5, when there was just the three of you. Our triple room would have been more suitable, and much cheaper. Perhaps that would be a better option next time:) Warm regards, Neil, Katya and Mila

Although the Guest House is dated, it has everything needed for a wonderful, comfortable stay: Neil is an interesting host who goes out of his way to please, delightful, happy three year old daughter are bonuses to immaculate white ironed duvet covers, enormous traditional Scottish breakfasts, well-stocked library of books, DVDs. Stunning views are nearby etc. Remnants of massive slate quarry which operated for more than 200 years just 50 yards across the road worth checking out. Oh, yes and convenient grocery store, information center nearby. Citylink and stagecoach bus stops right across the street.

Tips:

Laroch restaurant across the street is good. The information center also serves snacks and lunches.

14th April 2016:

Owners and staff really helpful great breakfast thanks again.

Tips:

Don't stay in this village on a Monday if you want to have dinner as the local pub/restaurant The Laroch doesn't serve food on this day of the week. There is only one other place to have dinner in the village and have got to tell everyone that the welcome we got at the Isles of Glencoe Hotel / Restaurant when we went into have dinner at 5pm was far from welcoming. Although the restaurant was empty they would not offer us a table for dinner for four hours but when they asked if we were residents in their hotel they would not serve us at all. This makes me so sad as I am a proud Scotsman who loves his country and to think that travellers from all over the world come to visit our beautiful country to be treated like this make me so upset. I choose to holiday in Scotland to spend my money in my own country to help the local community's I visit when I am walking or cycling. After a long day had to walk to the next village and got dinner at The Gathering in Glencoe which was really good.

Owner Response:

I'm very sorry to hear you had this experience at the Isles of Glencoe. I've never heard of them behave like this before, and I will certainly have a word with them about it as we absolutely do not want our guests to be treated in such a way. That said, I think it's a little unfair to tell people not to stay here on a Monday. Yes, it is true, the Laroch doesn't serve food on a Monday, but there are many other options nearby. There is a fish and chip restaurant opening very soon, The Gathering, and the Isles of Glencoe. I know you were on bicycles, which made things a little tougher for you, but for those with cars there are many excellent eateries within a few minutes drive, one of which, The Seafood Cafe, ranks as one of the best restaurants in the whole of the UK. All that said, this does not excuse how you were treated at the Isles and I will certainly be talking to the manager about it. I am very sorry you had this experience and I hope it doesn't put you off visiting again. Albeit perhaps not on a Monday.
