29th November 2021:

Could not have been more helpful with arranging our off-season stay, advice about the locality and offers to help us get to and from walks in the area. Breakfast was excellent ... and so many things are homemade too - right down to the muesli, the marmalade and the excellent biscuits in the room. There is a lounge available to help with bad weather days and the rooms are a good size with fine views. Location is perhaps a little bit isolated but there was no problem with road noise even though the road is very close by. Excellent all round.

Tips:

Try the walk down from the Commando Memorial down to the river gorge below - best if there has been dry weather as it can be a bit boggy but the river is quite spectacular and is used by kayakers for white water excursions.

A first class establishment with great customer care. I couldn’t rate it highly enough. The breakfasts were superb - I recommend the porridge ,the scones and award winning marmalade. Dining room and lounge have wonderful views. A cut above the usual B &B. Just fantastic!

House is spotlessly clean. Beds are comfortable. Food is excellent and presented in a beautiful dining room with views that includes the visiting red squirrels. Shiela and Ian are very helpful and a wealth of knowledge.

Staying at this bed and breakfast was like staying at a relative’s house. They really made you feel at home. The room was spacious and warm. The view was absolutely gorgeous. You really can’t beat waking up surrounded by mountains and a beautiful loch.

Tips:

We drove up to Isle of Skye for a day trip. It’s only a 2.5 hour drive from the bed and breakfast and the drive is amazing! We spent another day exploring Fort William which had a surprising amount to offer. There are plenty of nice restaurants, shops, and even a cruise on the loch to see the seals. I would highly recommend this trip!

The Heathers is a 5star Bed and Breakfast. Our hosts were very welcoming and our room provided us with everything we needed after a long journey. Our breakfast was excellent.

11th September 2020:

Really enjoyed our stay at the Heathers. Ian and Sheila were very warm, welcoming hosts that made us feel right at home throughout our stay. The room was fully equipped with all amenities, including an incredible view of the loch and mountains that surround. The breakfast menu had a good range of options with many of the dishes made using local ingredients - (even the Heather’s own garden grown ingredients!). Every breakfast dish was made with care and we thoroughly enjoyed rolling out of bed to it each morning. We would happily stay again and are already recommending to friends and family. Thank you both!

Tips:

The Heathers is well placed as a base to visit a number of Scotland’s beautiful landscapes. We visited Glencoe and Skye from the B&B taking approx 1 and 2 hours travel By car respectively. Many local restaurants were all fully booked on the day of calling due to pandemic restrictions on capacity. So book restaurants well in advance of your stay!

First class B&B accommodation with stunning scenic views over Loch Lochy. You are both friendly and knowledgeable hosts who have a beautiful home. Our room was top class and a great size with a fab view over the Loch. Loved all your personal touches that made our 3 night stay more enjoyable, especially your homemade biscuits Sheila which were delicious. Breakfasts were superb and like the idea of ordering the night before so we didn't have long to wait! Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay with you both and hope to return one day.

Tips:

Plenty to see and do with some lovely eating places. One we particularly liked was The Old Station House in Spean Bridge. While youre in that area pay a visit to the Royal Commando monument which pays homage to the fantastic job the Commandos did during the Second World War. It's very poignant but well worth a visit.

Ian and Sheila run a first class establishment that is tastefully and comfortably furnished and decorated. The Heathers is located in a scenic area with good access to nearby villages and attractions. Good dining options can be accessed without going into larger towns like Fort William. The breakfasts are excellent and Sheila's homemade marmalade jam should be tasted. Ian and Sheila are good company and provide great advice.

Tips:

High tea at Glengarry Castle Hotel is worth the short detour. Nice dinners at Invergarry Hotel. The gondola on the Ben Nevis ski field is a 'must do' on a fine day. We loved the drive from Fort William south through the Trossachs. Allow plenty of time to stop and take in the views.

A beautiful place to stay and felt very welcome. Nothing was too much for Sheila and Ian. Breakfast was excellent with an extensive menu available (the scones, haggis, jams and marmalade were great). The homemade biscuits in the room were a lovely surprise especially after a long run. The room had everything we needed and was a very relaxing space. We will definitely stay again in the future and have already recommended to friends and family.

Tips:

As a last minute and everywhere is busy, the Roy Bridge Hotel has a good menu and plenty of space. There are plenty of miles worth of running/walking/biking at the nearby Nevis Range.

The Heathers is in an ideal location for exploring a wide variety of natural environments, wild life, attractions and facilities. My wife and I have used The Heathers as a stop over to break a long journey from Lincolnshire to the Western Isles. We have no hesitation in scoring all the criteria above as excellent. There has always been a consistency in the provision of facilities to high standards and an attention to detail. The breakfast menu caters for every taste and benefits from the inclusion of home made items (Sheila's award winning marmalade and delicious scones come to mind!).

Tips:

There is an excellent selection of leaflet information in the entrance hall. Have a word with Ian and Sheila, their information will be up to date and pronounced properly!

A lovely B & B with attentive hosts, fabulous breakfasts, and cozy rooms. The Heathers is run with the professionalism of a hotel and the congeniality of a home, and guests could not be in better hands. I would happily return.

Tips:

By American standards, the distances between attractions are not vast, but the roads are not designed for speed (many of the most scenic are single lane) and the beautiful vistas invite frequent stops. So allow more time than you think you'll need to get from one point to another.

Shelia and Ian are wonderful hosts, warm and welcoming, and their home is beautiful. It is spotlessly clean, spacious, and well decorated. The view over the loch is beautiful. Our hot breakfast featured a nice selection of food, including Shelias homemade bread and award winning jams. They go out of their way to be helpful, calling for dinner reservations and giving directions. Wish we could have stayed longer. One thing that could be improved is the location of their sign. It is confusing and makes the house difficult to find in the dark. We took a wrong turn, and ended up in a scary situation. A simple fix-move the sign next to the actual driveway.

We had a fantastic time at Thw Heathers & would highly recommend it. It is run to incredibly high standards the views, the room & the breakfast was out if this world. Homemade bread, scones, jams , marmalade & the delicious granola. The cooked options were also delicious. It is a great peaceful location right on the Loch & not far from Fort William. I can honestly say it is the best B&B we have ever stayed at.

We stayed for two nights at The Heathers. Very nice place, well equipped rooms. Sheila and Ian are very friendly and ready with tips for visiting and dinner places. Deer spotting, lovely views. A delicious breakfast ! TOP !

Breakfasts and hospitality were wonderful. Sheila also made us excellent lunches to take on a long day's travels. The room was immaculate and very comfortable with a beautiful view of the gorgeous garden and the loch. Ian went out of his way to educate us about the local birds and the surrounding area. Wifi was quite patchy, but our hosts had let us know about this in advance, so it was no surprise. Overall, we highly recommend The Heathers!

Tips:

We ate one night at the Letterfinley Hotel restaurant and found the food good, but the service poor. We were served someone else's food and given a different party's bill. We had a drink at the Corriegour Hotel thanks to the kindness of the owners, who normally serve only residents. It is definitely worth a stop and a request to dine there as the food is reported to be fabulous. We also cycled from Fort Augustus to Letterfinlay along the Caledonian Canal with the excellent help of the very nice folks at Girven's Hardware. We also enjoyed the Jacobite steam train from Fort William to Mallaig and the Wildlife cruise with West Coast Tours from Oban to Mull, Lunga, Staffa and Iona.

Wonderful B&B. Shelia & Ian are impeccable hosts who make you feel welcome the moment you walk in the door. Beautiful rooms, with nice touches and amazing views of the adjoining loch (Ian would chastise me if I were to say lake, lol). Shelia's food preparation and presentation showed great care and attention to detail. The traditional Scottish breakfast was delicious (we even liked the Haggis). My wife particularly enjoyed the freshly made mueslix. The homemade scones and jams/marmalades were absolutely amazing. Ian took the time to suggest places to eat, sights to see, and offered advice on road travel. While enjoying afternoon cocktails in the cozy living room, we received an informative lesson on single malt scotch whiskey from Ian that served us well as we traversed the Scottish countryside. We look forward to another opportunity to stay at this lovely B&B

As we arrived around 3pm in the afternoon for check-in, the welcoming wasn't very warm (from the hostress) as the hosts were still preparing the rooms. The breakfast was just excellent, and we appreciated the little attentions left in our room, the homemade shortbread was awesome !

Tips:

Visiting Spean Bridge and waterfalls around

26th July 2015:

We really loved staying at The Heathers. Location is beautiful; room and the ensuite bathroom were very nice, clean and comfortable and equipped with everything one needs. Breakfast was great (both in taste as well as in looks); we loved the homemade jams and marmelade as well as the specific Scottish breakfast. Ian and Sheila were kind and thoughtful hosts and we would love to revisit them.

Tips:

The location is rather in the center of the west Scotland points of interest. With the rented car we were able to visit all castles around it (in Fort William, in Loch Ness etc). We visited Isle of Skye as well the Isle of Mull and Iona. We hiked the nearby mountains.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. Breakfast was exceptional thanks to Sheila's brilliant cooking, and lively conversation was had both mornings as all guests sit together. This is so lovely when you are travelling for several weeks to be able to share travel stories, tips and suggestions with other travellers. Thank you for a memorable stay.

Tips:

We did a day trip to the Isle of Skye from here.

A little bit away from Spean Bridge but clearly sign-posted. Suited us as en route to Inverness. Welcomed by Sheila and shown two beautiful and spacious rooms with en-suite facilities. Lovely toiletries and bath sheets. Well stocked hospitality tray included delicious,home-made shortbread. We were also given fresh milk, kept cool in a container with frozen core. Free Wi-Fi, flat screen TV, glimpses of loch from both rooms. Tasty cooked breakfast choices plus fresh fruit, yoghurt, fruit juice, cereals, fresh bread and scones, delicious jams and marmalade, tea and coffee. Knowledgeable host provided books and maps on area distilleries to help make choice easier with our limited time scale. Would highly recommend.

Tips:

Lovely views of the loch from the new Seafood Restaurant at Letterfinlay Hotel a short drive from The Heathers. Reasonably priced and good selection of food. Pleasant waiting staff. Enjoyed seeing the locks in action at Fort Augustus. Fortunate to visit Urquhart Castle on a sunny day - great historical re-enactor provided details of his period clothing and weapons of 17thC.

We were visiting the area to attend the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup and stayed at The Heathers for four nights. Ian and Sheila the owners are very friendly and helpful and the three dogs: Jura, Sadie and Mika are very cute and friendly too! The Heathers is in a beautiful loaction with stunning views from the lounge and terrace; the bedroom was very clean and comfortable and the bathroom was modern, clean and had a powerful shower (very welcome when you've got long hair!). Ian very kindly picked us up from Spean Bridge on the Saturday and Sunday of the event. There is a free shuttle bus from Spean Bridge to the Nevis Range where the event is held. It stops at Spean Bridge and we much appreciated his picking us up and taking us the extra distance back to the B&B at the end of the day.

Tips:

We had very good food at: Ospreys Seafood Restaurant at the Letterfinlay Lodge Hotel The Lock Inn in Fort Augustus The Old Station Restaurant in Spean Bridge If you mountain bike then Laggan Wolftrax and the downhill tracks at the Nevis Range are both must do's!

Our stay was excellent and above our expectation! My only comment is the confusion over how a poached egg is served. The egg served to me had a solid yolk and the way I expected it to be served was simmered for just two minutes with a creamy yolk - but everything was delicious and I should have been more specific about what I wanted. Have a great day...:)

If this B&B was a hotel it would be called Claridges. The best B&B we have ever stayed in anywhere. Tea and cake on arrival, the lightest cream scones; and Sheila's breakfasts are second to none. The attention to detail is remarkable. Spacious bedroom and bathroom and very comfortable large double bed. Quality toiletries. Ian & Sheila were excellent hosts and we will certainly stay here again.

Tips:

A choice of good restaurants within 5 miles and details provided in the bedrooms. Large selection of tourist information in entrance lobby, and Ian freely offers help with route planning.

Our room on the ground floor was small with no view but we believe this was due to a late change of date on our part causing us to coincide with a large group booking.who were there for 3 nights. Hosts were very friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent with very good quality food including home made bread, scones and marmalade.

Tips:

Russel's was fully booked but higly recommended. We ate at The Station which was busy and friendly with good food. My husbands steak was deemed excellent by him.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Heathers with Ian and Sheila, two very welcoming hosts. We had room no.3 which had an amazing view over the Loch and the old station. We loved Sheila's home-made cakes with a cup of tea on arrival and breakfast was outstanding. Highly recommended!

Tips:

Don't go to the Letterfinlay Hotel for a meal. I had the haddock and chips and my wife had the scampi and chips which were both disappointingly overcooked and tasteless. We should have paid a bit extra and gone to Russell's I guess.
