Surrounded by greenery and a little hidden but very quiet. Small but very clean and tidy room. Very attentive hostess. I tried my first Scottish breakfast here, very good!!!

Tips:

In 15 minutes by car you can reach Fort William by car. Not recommended if you don't have a car. It surely worth a stay, you won't regret it!

Everything is perfect as usual, having stayed there many times, Ilona is a friend now. The best bit is Ilona, she is amazing+nothing is too much trouble.

Tips:

Plenty to see+do here. A trip on the gondola up Aonach mor mountain gives you stunning scenery. The Jacobite steam train is also a must or Neptune's staircase+ Corpach basin where the Caledonian canal meets Loch Linnhe is a great walk. I'd advise people to book their meals in restaurants as they can get fully booked at busy times of the year.

Extremely warm and friendly hospitality. The location whilst quite a way out of Fort William was none the less an enjoyable experience and driving under a canal was a first.

A brilliant stay, thank you. Quiet location with a great view. Nice room, good bed, good shower. Excellent breakfast. Good TV. Easy parking. Clunky windows.

Much easier to find than advertised. A charming little tunnel with tiny waterfall beside. An epic view of Ben Nevis by the front door. Chickens in the field beside. A very polite Labrador kept out the way. 20 mins from Glenfinnan. 5 mins form Neptune’s staircase.

We really enjoyed our stay at Torcastle House. We felt very welcome and had a good breakfast in the morning. The room was very tidy and had everything you need in it. It also was very spacious. The only thing to critize was the relatively small blanket which made it difficult to sleep under with two people, without getting cold in the night. The B&B is beautifully situated, yet the travel to it by car is a little difficult obecause of the uneven roads and the small tunnel.

Tips:

Fort William is not far away and has some good restaurants.

Absolutely superb B&B, wonderfully comfortable - I especially appreciated the great tea selection, and the snuggly bed! And of course, around the back of the shed, across the field, through the bluebells... not every B&B has its own castle.

Tips:

Torcastle is close to Fort William and the Great Glen, but for walkers it's a couple of minutes off the canal and has the most superb view of Ben Nevis. And if you're like me and a bit worried about dogs, don't be! These black labs are determined to present you with fluffy toys and waggy tails, no barks or growls, just kindness.

While the Thistle room was smaller than it appeared in the pictures, it was well appointed. The proprietor (Ilona) was so welcoming! Breakfasts were delicious! I particularly appreciate the proprietor’s willingness to offer alternatives for those of us with food allergies. The views of Ben Nevis were fantastic!

Tips:

The tunnel under the canal to get to the property is low and narrow. We were concerned our car would be too wide on first go. Ben Nevis Inn was a gem of a restaurant- 10min away and highly recommend. Also, Black Isle Brewery was family (and dog) and food allergen friendly. If you love the microbrew environment, definitely check it out!

Make sure to make a reservation for dinner no matter where you go or you could end up doing an unwanted tour. We absolutely loved this B & B. Such a beautiful location and a lovely set up especially if you have the two rooms. You then have the lounge to yourself and we really enjoyed that. Ilona and Gavin are lovely people who welcomed us warmly and shared about their animals etc. We really would love to go back one day, maybe even to one of their self catering accommodations. Thank you for an amazing stay! Xx

Tips:

We ate at the Ben Nevis in Fort William which was really good. We were just using the stay as a stopover on way to Skye but we still had a walk about. The wee cinema looks great and we would love to have gone there. It’s worth a wee drive to see the Steall Falls. A bit of a climb where you can choose how far you want to walk as the falls seem to go on for miles. A visit to see the Glenfinnan Viaduct is a must! Enjoy!

We (my husband, son, parents and I) spent three fantastic nights at Torcastle House. Ilona is a fantastic host, making us feel really welcome and helping us with our questions. The breakfasts were delicious, particularly the black pudding and smoked salmon (not necessarily together!). The rooms were great too with comfy beds, room for our clothes, nice hot showers and tea making facilities. It was great to be able to use the communal area as a group too as our group had both of the rooms. Oh and the dogs were brilliant playing with our son. We'd thoroughly recommend Torcastle House and will be back if we're in the area again.

Lovely hosts, clean and well appointed rooms, awesome views of Ben Nevis, excellent breakfast. Everything we could have wished for thanks.

Tips:

Need to pre-book evening meals in local town. We hadn't done that on our evening of arrival and couldn't get a table anywhere - ended up in huge queue at McDonalds - presumably with everyone else who hadn't pre-booked a table. We pre-booked at 'The Moorings' - nearest restaurant to Torcastle House for evening meal on night two and enjoyed a fabulous meal.

Exactly what we were looking for. Off the beaten track but close enough to the action. The b n b was impeccably clean and the host was superb. Couldn't do enough for us!! They say locals make the best tour guys, and that is the case here. We were sent on some lovely walks recommended by Ilona and she was spot on!. Breakfast was gorgeous!!!! Our room was clean and spacious and the bathroom was great! A nice soak in the tub at the end of a busy day. We can't recommend this place enough! Thankyou and we will see you again :)

Tips:

The only thing I can mention would be, if you are heading to the Nevis Range, all go in the one car as it is extortionate to park and then to go up in the cable car. The food at the top is not worth the money they are asking PREP YOUR FOOD BEFORE YOU GO. £11 for hotdog and chips!!!where I come from that is not worth it. But the range facilities are great. They just need to sort their value for money out on the little things.

We stayed 2 nights here ( for the second time) and had a wonderful time! The drive down through the tunnel is quirky. The accommodation is spotless and the hosts are extremely helpful and kind. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. The setting is stunning and peaceful yet close to Fort William and all amenities. We stayed in “Heather” a king size en-suite room which was perfect. Breakfast was delicious- a huge bowl of fresh fruit ( melon, strawberries and blueberries) followed by scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and as much fresh coffee as we wanted. I would strongly recommend a stay here!

Tips:

There is lots to do in Fort William and it is slowly opening up after Covid restrictions. We had a lovely day on the Jacobite steam railway from Fort William to Mallaig. We had a good meal in The Moorings Hotel close to Torcastle and enjoyed a visit to the Great Glen. A visit to the Highland Soap Company in Fort William is a must! Brilliant shop and cafe and lovely products.

This was our third wonderful visit to Torcastle House. We love it here and will definitely visit again. The room is large, comfortable and extremely clean. There are lovely facilities including local toiletries etc. The hosts are really friendly and helpful if you need ideas or tips where to visit or how to get somewhere. The view from the breakfast room is simply stunning and the breakfast is delicious, freshly made to our taste each day. There’s not many places you can sit eating your breakfast looking at Ben Nevis and watching a variety of animals potter about the land. We also love the unique setting and the journey through the little tunnel to get there, it still feels like a proper adventure, even though this is our third visit. Can’t recommended Torcastle House highly enough. It’s a super place and we will definitely be back to stay again.

Tips:

There is so much to see and do around the local area. Trip up the cable car to the Nevis Range Isle of Syke Applecross pass Pizza jos and The bakery Glencoe Fort Augustus And Loch Ness Lots of good driving roads and stunning scenery. Advice - if you like driving take some of the smaller roads on the map, amazing views, lots of wildlife and a feeling of being amongst nature.

We had a great stay at Torcastle, the room was big, spacious & very clean, the bed was so comfortable. Also ideal location if your climbing Ben Nevis. Would highly recommend.

Tips:

Ideal location if your climbing Ben Nevis, its 20 minute drive from Glen Nevis Visitors center where we started our walk. We ate out in some good places, the first night was just the local cinema but it was very tasty thats located in fort william town center the 2nd night we ate at the Cobbs lounge bistro which was also very tasty but limited menu. I would book restaurants in advance as it was so busy we struggled to get in places.

Lovely B&B with clean, well-appointed rooms and one of the best views ever, looking out into Ben Nevis. Excellent breakfast with their own free range eggs - you can watch the hens that provide them in front of the house. As a vegetarian, the specific provision for me was very well done.

Tips:

Be aware that you have to drive through a magnificent but low and narrow tunnel to reach the B&B. It’s an early 19th century engineering wonder, but you won’t get through with a top box, bike rack or canoes on top of your car and anything larger than a medium SUV will struggle. I drive a Peugeot 3008 and it was a tight squeeze - but well worth the effort.

Everything about this B&B is just wonderful, from the setting, with a lovely view of Ben Nevis to Ilona's breakfasts, which are a real treat. Our 10 year old said it was the best scrambled egg ever! Ilona and her family are so warm and friendly and the animals are a joy to be around. The rooms are modern and comfortable, with all amenities needed. We really enjoyed every part of our stay.

Tips:

If you want to go to restaurants to eat, make sure you book a table in advance. We struggled to get in anywhere, but this may have been due to fewer tables being available because of CV-19. We highly recommend the Geographers on the High Street, it has a really nice vibe and very friendly staff. The wood fired pizza place does delicious pizza but service was hit and miss (we think they have not quite adjusted to the CV-19 situation). The Moorings is nice but over-priced for what they offer. Highly recommended activities are the walk to Steall Falls and a trip on the Jacobite steam train is not to be missed. There are also lovely walks in Glen Coe near Clachaig Inn and around the Lochan. The Kyle of Lochalsh can be easily done in a day and Glen Shiel is a must see area.

Tips:

Walk along the canal down to Neptune's staircase; walk in the woods with the dogs; walk to the upper falls at the very end of Glen Nevis; avoid the main path up Ben Nevis (or go very early in the day) - the path from the North side (North face parking in Torlundy) is longer but beautiful and not crowded at all.

Tips:

It’s a small sign for you to spot to turn off the road to head for the B & B so you need to be alert.

12th August 2019:

Though a little off the beaten path, Torcastle offered great views of Ben Nevis in a quite and quaint setting. Admittedly, driving underneath the Caledonian Canal via a tunnel to reach the property initially seemed daunting but was a unique and memorable experience. The host was lovely and attentive to all our needs. We also were greeted by their friendly dogs, Poppy in particular, each time we arrived back at the B&B. The breakfast meal service was phenomenal each day. In short, we greatly enjoyed our experience and this B&B set the bar high for the remainder of our lodging experiences in Scotland.

Tips:

Fort William provided us with many activities nearby including many dining options, recreational outings, and site-seeing. In particular, we hike Ben Nevis (the highest point in the UK) which was a short drive from the B&B. We quite enjoyed eating at Garrison West in the main pedestrian mall and the Moorings Hotel near the B&B.

Our host was lovely, our bedroom was clean & comfortable and the property is spectacular. In view of Ben Nevis we ate our breakfast, fresh eggs from the chooks were delicious. The property is great to wander around and it’s an easy walk to the canal gates & The Moorings hotel for a meal. Tor castle is secluded, beautiful and quiet. it’s only a short drive from Fort William and we would recommend it to anyone looking to book a trip to this area.

Everything worked and Torcastle provided a pleasant location for anyone wishing to stay in the Fort William area.

Tips:

Access to Torcastle is via a short tunnel beneath the Caledonian Canal - but this is not a negative and visitors feel that they are staying somewhere unique. On a clear day Ben Nevis can be seen from the front of the property.

We stayed as a party of 4 what we really enjoyed was having a small sitting room/dining area where you could relax or play board games . Ilona gave us very detailed instructions of how to find the B & B. The location is wonderful and you could see Ben Nevis from the dining room window. We took a taxi into town for something to eat and this was £15.

Everyone was very helpful. The owners son helped us find somewhere to eat the night we stayed. The breakfast was excellent. The location being out of town really suited us.

Tips:

Don't be put off that the B&B is out of town. The views of Ben Nevis make up for it. The drive back into town for dinner was quick and straightforward. The shared lounge was really nice as we met the other couple who were staying. We were just travelling through on our way to Skye so didn't spend much time in Fort William. We did stop at Neptunes Staircase and walked up the canal. Well worth a visit.

This is our second visit to this wonderful B&B and I’m sure we will visit again. The location, scenery and setting are perfect. The owners are friendly and helpful, chatting about local amenities and places to visit. The breakfast is delicious with a choice of a full English breakfast, fresh fruit, toast, yoghurts etc. This really is a little gem of a place.

Tips:

There are some amazing places to visit on the tourist trails but equally the best advice would be to drive the ‘little’ roads, off the beaten track. You will see some great places and wildlife too.

All you can wait from a B&B: nice and clean room, a nice leaving room, an excellent full breakfast (or not, you can chose what you want) and with large choice of hour to take it (from 7:00, witch is not’possible everywhere). You’ll enjoy the outside, the garden with the goat and dogs. Owners are such lovely people who will do everything to help you and will give you some advices of the things to do around. I would also recommend the full Scottish breakfast and the cereal and fresh fruit. I can not recommend Torcastle House more highly

Tips:

I was not overly impressed with the Moorings Bistro for dinner so guest may wish to venture in to a Fort William. Neptune’s steps are a must see along with a walk along the Caledonian Canal. It is only 20 minutes drive to the Glenfinnan Viaduct and also the Nevis Range Gondola.

Nice location, excellent accommodation, good food and nice people, what more could anyone ask? This was the perfect antidote to the awful place we stayed at in Fort Augustus at the other end of the canal. I'd be happy to stay here again.

Tips:

Make sure you follow the directions, and yes, you really do have to go through that tunnel. Think of it as an adventure the first time. It's bigger than you think, and don't worry about the painted trees and bushes on the approach. The Moorings does nice food at a fair price (compared with where we live), and don't expect too much from the Glencoe Scottish National Trust visitor centre.

This is off the main road but still convenient to all the areas nearby. Yes, it is a bit tricky the first time in, but really quite simple once done. We had a lovely walk along the nearby canal to dinner one night and a delicious meal with local entertainment overlooking the trail of Ben Nevis the next. Our host was welcoming and helpful beyond what could be expected and was most appreciated. Rooms were of a good size, beds comfortably firm, and the showers had plenty of hot water. The farm is a welcome refuge for all.

Torcastle is an amazing little spot right under Ben Nevis. It's close enough to Fort William that you don't feel isolated, but it's quiet and so peaceful that the only things you hear are the birds and the cute pet sheep the family own. Warm and welcoming and also we so appreciated your kindness around our utter exhaustion when we arrived! Loved the location and the friendly critters that greeted us in the morning. Superb breakfast! Our only challenge was it was difficult to find the B&B despite the written directions. A map would have been great to download for folks who work better wth a visual guide... even a hand done PDF would be helpful. Both our Sat Nav system and our smartphone map apps did not seem to be able to locate the place either. (Sat Nav would not accept all the Long/Latitude data).

Of all the B&B's we have used, there is only one other that can compare - that too is in Scotland. The welcome was great. The room and bed beyond expectations and the breakfast wonderful. What a fabulous stay at Torcastle! Ilona is a marvellous hostess - very warm and welcoming. She let me feed a baby goat she's looking after! The B&B is in a beautiful spot, looking on to Ben Nevis - I'd love to stay in a place like that. Breakfast was brilliant and set us up for the day. Cannot fault a thing about Torcastle House - will definitely return. Thank you so much!

Tips:

The drive through the tuunnel to get to Torcastle is an adventure - don't let this put you off at all - you're driving under the Caledonian Canal and the tunnel is easy if you take your time. Have a go at Ben Nevis (weather permitting) - we got half way in just over 2 hours before being stopped by snow. Get out and walk in the local area - beautiful scenery. Visit the West Highland Museum in Ft William - brilliant! We ate in both the Crofter's and the Lochy (both have pool tables) - good, well-priced food and pleasant service.

Torcastle bed and breakfast is a very nice place to stay, the staff are very friendly and helpful and made me and my girlfriend feel very welcome and it felt like a home from home as the atmosphere was so calm and peaceful. The scenery is amazing looking out the window eating breakfast looking at the mountains with the snow and clouds rolling over the peaks. Definitely worth a visit even if it is for one night. We stayed for 4 nights and loved it. The animals are brilliant also got to see the sheep feeding in the morning and play with the baby goat and also play with the dogs. Me and my girlfriend will definitely be staying again during the summer as it is a good Base from nevis not to far away to go walking or climbing. Not far at all from Fort William so definitely a plus as you get the peaceful location and then you can go out and have fun, come back and then relax. I would like to thank the staff at torcastle bed and breakfast for the hospitality and letting me feed the baby goat (billy) :) Thankyou from Jordan and Alexandra..

Not far from Ben Nevis north face car park. Lots to do in Fort William go explore! Also if you see the dogs make sure you play ball there friendly and like a good scratch on the head :)

By far the best B&B stay in our trip around the UK. Astounding scenery. Friendly and helpful hosts. Clean, tidy, comfortable, welcoming - what more could you ask. Close to a major town, three-legged sheep, a truly unique approach. Torcastle has it all.

Tips:

Go for walk alongside the canal and then back the road way. We saw deer on our second run down the road. Watch boats passing through the locks.

Great warm welcome. The bed must have been the most comfortable we ever slept on! Absolutely delicious breakfast and all in all great experience.

Tips:

The Moorings restaurant in the town is mediocre. Food is good, but the overall atmosphere feels like a motorway diner. I'd drive to Fort William for food next time. The landscapes around the house are brilliant! The canal looks great and the driving roads around the area are a pleasure. Tip: DO NOT trust google maps for directions to the house. Trust the hosts instead!!!

Superb B & B in a fantastic location off the beaten track, within beautifully quiet surroundings. Easy access to nearby Fort William. Ilona was very welcoming and made us feel right at home. Nothing was too much trouble (she perfectly met my requests for non-feather bedding due to allergies and catered for a vegetarian). Our room (Thistle) was excellent. It was pleasantly decorated, exceptionally clean, very warm, spacious and well equipped. We could not have asked for more! Being able to eat breakfast with a stunning view was a treat. Highly recommended and will definitely stay again, thank you!

Tips:

Walk into Fort William from the B & B took us about an hour going along the canal but was worth it for the lovely scenery.

Torcastle House was a lovely, neat-as-a-pin B&B tucked away near Banavie, Fort William and a good base for walking/hiking Ben Nevis. The proprietor, Ilona, was do helpful and efficient. She met us at Banavie station, which was greatly appreciated. Full Breakfasts were exactly what we needed before hiking Ben Nevis.

A car is recommended, but it's possible to make do without. Walking the Great Glen Way or hiking at least part of the way up "the Ben" are must-dos, as the scenery is spectacular.

At first I thought I was lost. I had come down a gravel lane and before me was a tunnel under a canal. I couldn't turn my motorcycle round, so decided to press on. On reaching the other end of the tunnel, I rode on a few more hundred yards to come to my destination. What a surprise ! A lovely modern built building and a warm welcome by my host for the night. The setting is beautiful and so quiet. My room for the night was large and comfortable with a nice en-suite to shower away the days travels. Although in the country, it's not too far from eating establishments of which there are many and a bonus of discount arranged by my host in some of them. Going in and out via the tunnel made this stay like an adventure and after a hearty breakfast, I was wishing I had more time to take in this oasis in the woods.

Tips:

I ate in The Moorings restaurant which is the first one you reach at the end of the winding road from Torcastle House. Discount is available and the food is very decent with nice attentive staff.

While our stay was only two nights, we went to see the " Harry Potter Train" cross the viaduct at Glenfinnan as well as doing the walk under the viaduct and up over the hill to the Glenfinnan Station and museum. We also caught the gondola up Aonach Mor and did the two walks out to viewing areas to get great views of Fort William and the lochs as well as Ben Nevis.

With flights booked I had left it a little late on the accommodation and hadn't paid too much attention to where I was booking. When we pulled of the main road and followed directions down to a tunnel taking you underneath the canal we started to realise this wasn't your standard B&B along a main road. The setting it beautiful, great views over the mountains, friendly dogs, chickens, lambs, pigs all surround you. You feel like you are on a self sufficient island with the river on one side and the canal the other. The breakfasts are brilliant - would recommend the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon - you only get scrambled eggs that colour from eggs that are laid within meters of where you eat! I would have no hesitation in going back again, and probably again.

Crannog Seafood Restaurant on the Loch was our favourite place we ate - booking recommended

You have to be prepared to drive if you want pubs and restaurants but it's worth it with such fantastic views of the Nevis range.

Highly recommend.

Go to the Ben Nevis Bar and Restaurant a couple of miles up the north side of the glen for good food and beautiful setting and fantastic views. Even though we only got one day of skiing done due to the weather, we still had a lovely holiday and would go back.

Tips:

The best restaurant we found was an indian called Spice Tandoori in Fort William. The Wetherspoons pub was good too.

Unique location accessed via a brick tunnel under the Caledonian Canal, I would suggest trying to arrive in daylight if possible. Views from B & B house which is separate from owners accommodation look towards the mountains and offer wonderful views. Owners are very friendly and hospitable, even the pet sheep are friendly. Breakfast was good and freshly cooked. Plenty of hot water for bath but electric shower was a run around and get wet affair. ( We have power shower at home so this may be normal) Would stop there again when we are in area.

Tips:

We had a meal in the Nevis Inn (Browns) in Fort William. The found we had was excellent; but we only had a main meal of braised shin of beef on red cabbage and no starter or sweet. Just be aware of the prices before you venture in as for a group of you it could prove expensive.

Fantastic customer service, excellent breakfast, lovely landlady. Comfortable beds, everything clean. Wifi a bit slow. Just a perfect accomodation for them who wants to rest and chill out after a long day. Just reccomend to everyone.

Because this house is in the mountains,be sure you arrive before the sun goes down, cos for someone who has never driven through narrow tunnel, can be very scary to do it when it's dark.

Decor, hospitality, breakfast food, layout of the room and bright and spacious breakfast area/guest living room all truly outstanding. The only possible drawback the country lanes leading in from the main road making it difficult to find the place at first, but clear instructions from the hostess sent in advance by email largely overcame that.

Tips:

A few minutes drive to the village of Banavie gets one to any easy access point for a walk along the Caledonian Canal beside the series of seven locks known as Neptune's Staircase. Access to Torcastle House involves a (short) drive through a tunnel under a viaduct carrying a section of the canal - fascinating.

Lovely accommodation and very friendly family. We loved our stay and the cooked breakfast was the best I have ever had. We loved the farm feel with chickens, sheep and Tara the pig all wandering around outside, not to mention their gorgeous well behaved dogs. A true country feel, we loved the remote location, especially the tunnel to get there! Our king size bed was very comfortable and the room was very large. A perfect place to stay after climbing Nevis, couldn't have asked for more and I would recommend to anyone. We were made to feel very welcome and at home. There was a relaxed atmosphere throughout our stay, including a late breakfast and a relaxed, unrushed departure. Bliss and perfection.
