The warmth and service of the hosts Carole and Andy was outstanding. You could tell that they both enjoy their work and that guests are very welcome. The location of the B&B is also exceptional with views of the loch and the bird feeders. You can walk to the city center in 15 minutes. The breakfast was also very good and the rooms well equipped.

Andy and Carole have tips on good restaurants that you can trust and also provide walking routes in the documents. They are also happy to provide further individual tips, which helped us a lot.

Fantastic stay. Location and views of the loch are breathtaking. Rooms had everything we needed. Andy and Carole are the perfect hosts. Fabulous bed & breakfast, Carol & Andy are the perfect hosts making you feel welcome immediately. Room is lovely & clean & beds very comfortable. Nice lounge area for guests to meet up & chat with fridge for your use. Views are amazing. Breakfast service excellent & nothing is too much trouble, even baking us a cake for a birthday celebration. Plenty of advice for local walks & places to visit. Well recommend to any visitor.

If you have difficulty walking up a steep slope towards the house, especially with suitcases, use a taxi. Lovely walk into town, very easy along the loch. Train & bus station next to each other at far end of town.

Welcoming friendly & relaxed. Wonderful home cooked breakfasts with a lovely bowl of fresh fruit, yogurts and cereals also on offer. Very knowledgeable about the local walking routes and able to advise about other local activities and places to eat.

All the pubs and restaurants in the main town tended to be very busy so advisable to book in advance where possible. We did find the Mutu hotel on the edge of town was quiet and we always got a table without booking.

The place is just stunning! Our room had such a great view. The owners are just lovely and we felt really taken care of. Breakfast is really good and with an additional £5 they will also prepare a lunch box and some snack to help you go through the day. Very friendly, helpful and informative couple, who run the B&B. We wanted an early start on the Saturday to get walking up Ben Nevis, we were offered a packed lunch instead of breakfast which was unexpected and much appreciated. Neptunes staircase is worth a visit. Free to park. Gondola trip at Ben Nevis is very enjoyable, with restaurant at top with great views. We bought tickets once there. Enjoyed eating at Ben Nevis Bar which we walked to from B&B. No pre booking so be prepared to wait for a table at busy times, but lovely food.

The location was great the view was lovely. It was a short trip to the main area of Fort William. Great central location for planning out trips. The room was clean and comfortable. Andy and Carole were fantastic and friendly, very able to give advice of places to go and try.

The Grog and Gruel is a great place to eat. The Glenfinnan is a lovely place visit both the monument and the viaduct. Glencoe is a lovely area to go and take pictures.

Carole & Andy were so friendly and welcoming that we immediately felt at home. We stayed in the king bedroom for two nights which was extremely clean, comfortable and quiet. The hot breakfast was well cooked with a wide variety of choice plus you can help yourself to fruit, yoghurt and cereal. The view of the loch from the picture window in the breakfast room is amazing. The property is just on the edge of town and took us about 15 minutes to walk to the shops, restaurants etc. You can walk along the road or through the small narrow park alongside the loch. We couldn’t fault Balcarres and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we return to Fort William.

What a wonderful welcome we had at Balcarres. Carole and Andy couldn’t do enough to make our stay comfortable and gave us lots of information about the surrounding area and things to do. Very hospitable hosts, Andy and Carol couldn't have done any more for us, especially getting haggis onto the breakfast menu!! Very knowledgeable about the local area - walking, road trips, boat trips etc...lovely people.

Plenty to do for the outdoorsy types. 15 minute walk to town, where you can find the pubs, restaurants and wotnot. Restaurant we used (The Geographer) filled up pretty quick, so be prepared to wait if you don't get there early. Nor sure on the other places, but there was the 6 Days Motorcycle trial on, so would imagine most places were busy too. Plenty other info supplied in the B&B for all the various activities. Great place to use as a base.

The owners Carol and Andy are very friendly and helpful and are happy to advise on places to eat, walks etc . The guesthouse has a good view of Loch Linnhe and surrounding mountains.

Plenty of places to eat in Fort William with a nice walk into town overlooking the loch, there is free parking after 6pm in most of the town centre car parks. The A82 can get a bit congested on the north side of town at certain times of the day.

Andy and Carole looked after us very well. Our room was comfortable and breakfast was very tasty and a good size portion and choice.Location and views were excellent.

If climbing Big Ben... Take walking sticks and Andy can give any advice you need.

Such friendly hosts, we loved meeting you both. We are already planning coming back next summer 😀

For vegan guests - Wildcat Café (fully vegan), Black Isle Bar (pizzas with option for vegan cheese), Tiger on the Wall (Indian & Chinese). Lovely easy walk along Glen Nevis for those not keen on tackling the Ben! Ben Nevis Hotel for swimming pool - £5 for adults, £3 for kids (free for babies). Need to book in advance.

We walked Ben Nevis with not much exercise before. Would definitely recommend exercise before tackling this mammoth mountain!

Our stay was perfect - we had everything we needed, the fridge & TV room were wonderful extra's. The view from our room was exceptional! You were perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome.

Leave yourself plenty of time to take in everything in the area as there is so much to see - expecially with Covid restrictions being relaxed. The walk up to the Glenfinnan viaduct is well worth it as is the trip on the Jacobite Steam Train. There is a huge variety of places to eat, from cheap & cheerful to high end.

Very friendly and welcoming owners, felt more like friends than guests by the time we left. Lovely breakfasts. Lovely well equipped rooms, plenty tea and coffee. Fridge in the hallway an excellent idea if you want to bring some milk or chilled food. Great location. Beautiful views of loch linnhe. Would highly recommend. Hope to return.

Beautifully situated B & B with marvellous views. The room was smart clean and fresh and Andy and Carole were attentive hosts with plenty of hints for our stay, we couldn't fault the whole stay and we will be back !

I liked that there was plenty of tea and coffee in the room, and that real milk was supplied in a small flask instead of tiny plastic pods as is the norm. I spent two very comfortable nights at Balcarres whilst hillwalking in the area. The hospitality was brilliant and Jackie and Mike were very accommodating and friendly. Great breakfast and beautiful location on the banks of Loch Linnhe.

Lovely B&B with the most amazing views. Mike greeted us warmly and kindly.Having access to a proper-sized washer and dryer, for a very reasonable fee, were a life-saver for us after hiking for several days. We were sorry not to have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast as we had to leave very early. For those thinking of staying in the family room, it would be good for a family with small children, but it was quite snug for our family with two adult-sized teens.

It's a bit of a walk into town, but we had lovely weather so it was beautifully pleasant to walk along the water.

Mike and Jackie at Balcarres are super-friendly hosts. Rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. Little touches like fresh milk for your tea/coffee; full-sized bath-sheet; extensive breakfast choices make Balcarres an ideal place to stay - and somewhere I can happily recommend and intend to return to.

Must do - Crannog Cruises - a trip up Loch Linnhe with a fascinating commentary. Aonach Mor Gondolas - fantastic views back down to Fort William, Loch Linnhe and Loch Eil. Glencoe Visitor Centre. Jacobite Express Steam Train - Fort William to Mallaig. Places to eat: - Hot Roast Company café in Fort William Clan MacDuff Hotel Restaurant. Onich Hotel - lunch on the deck overlooking the Loch and Gardens - spectacular scenery

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I enjoyed my cozy ensuite room. The breakfast room was delightful with a lovely view over the loch and the breakfast delicious especially the smoked salmon. And I enjoyed chatting with Mike. I appreciated the bench out front where I could rest and contemplate sky, loch and hill after my day's adventures.

I enjoyed a delicious meal at Crannog - it was pricey but a nice treat - I had to book a day ahead. I went to the Grog and Gruel twice - good atmosphere! Ben Nevis is awesome - for those like me who are not skilled climbers, even making it to the loch is an achievement (nearly half way).

Immaculate and spotless. Service is best I've had in a B&B. Truly lives up to 4 star billing.

This B&B is up a very steep incline so unless your driving or are relatively fit, maybe look at something else. Having said that. If you can make it to the place then definitely go. The service is second to none and the place is immaculate. The views are spectacular and people very friendly.

Very warm welcome, a lot of information about Fort William, restaurants and activities. Breakfast was excellent and very well organized. Great view from the house, just a 15 Minutes walk to town. We recommend Balcarres to everybody!!

Very good seafood restaurant Crannog Seafood. For Thai kitchen see Sugar and Spice in Highstreet. Glen Nevis Restaurant was also very nice.

Nice location: about 10 minutes walk from town centre. Place itself is off the main road and at a higher level so great view of Loch Linne. Comfortable and good choices for breakfast (even though I limited my own choices). I would definitely stay at Balcarres again.

Plenty to do: with one path to Ben Nevis a few miles away; other hiking trails; cable car rides; and so much more; plenty of shops - though they do close promptly at 5pm; plenty of places to eat - I tried two and the 2nd place I visited, The Grog and Gruel was brilliant. Loved the food and choices of ales. If you can, try to get to hiking trails before 9, otherwise if you get there by car you will struggle to get parked!

I would have no hesitation in recommending this fine B&B,We booked here as we were going on a trip on the Jacobite Express train,the location was great as it was only a couple minutes drive.The rooms were spotless and had everything you needed,tv,coffee nad tea and biscuits.Shower and WC were also spotless with clean towels.Breakfast was excellent with a great choice of menu.And finally thanks for a great stay to the host who was very attentive and helpful.
