Nevis View is an unusual, architect designed house which lies within a small estate of 24 houses, just off the 'Road to the Isles' in the village of Corpach, 4.5 miles by road from Fort William. It provides a good base for exploring the local area, whether by car, using public transport or on foot. From the house there are views of Ben Nevis & the surrounding mountains & hills and also of Lochs Linnhe & Eil. Guests are welcome to make use of the large garden. Nevis View has a compact Family Room which can accommodate up to 3 people in a Double Bed and a Single Bed. Alternatively, the room can be let as a Double, a Twin or a Single. The Single Room lies next door. Facilities are shared. Each bedroom has Wifi, colour tv, DAB clock/radio, hairdryer, mini fridge & kettle with tea/coffee making facilities. Children & pets are welcome but the latter require to have their own bedding on which to sleep. Maximum of 1 dog per booking and regretfully no larger than 30 kg in size.

Good price/quality rate. There is not a lot of restaurant to eat around the house.

Thank you for the Review of your recent stay at 'Nevis View', which is largely very positive. I regret that there are no eating places in the village of Corpach, but that is something that is entirely outwith my control. However, Fort William is only 4.5 miles away and there you will find plenty of choice.

23rd August 2024:

I had a wonderful stay at Nevis View. The room was clean and comfortably furnished. I was able to choose the time I wanted to have breakfast, which included everything you need. The host was very nice and gave me a lot of information and helpful tips.

Tips:

I would definitely recommend Nevis View to anyone wanting to visit Fort William and the surrounding areas. The accomodation is only about 5 minutes from the train station and you can pick up something to eat at the Co-op along the way. With ScoTrail the journey to Fort William only takes about 11 minutes from Corpach. However, since trains only leave Corpach a few times a day, you'll definitely need to do some research. There are also buses that go to Fort William, but I have no experience with this. In Fort William I can recommend the West Highland Museum, which is a really interesting alternative if it ist raining (like in my case). In Corpach there is the Corpach shipwreck just a few minutes from the train station, which is definitely worth a look.

Thank you so much for the Review of your recent stay at 'Nevis View'. We enjoyed having you here and only regret that you experienced so much rain in those two days! At least The West Highland Museum gave you refuge for some of the time! There is a good bus service between Fort William and Corpach, which runs more frequently than the trains which you used! The Bus Stop is literally a 5 minute walk from the house and the buses are easy to use. It would seem that the Corpach Shipwreck's fame is spreading far and wide!

We loved the tea set-up in the bedroom and felt spoiled by your hearty breakfast. We also enjoyed having a little chat about your travels and life experiences. All in all it was wonderful to stay with you, Barbara.

Tips:

The Lochy has a varied menu and serves generous portions. Rather than hoisting yourself up Ben Nevis, which is not a fun walk, consider Cow Hill circuit. It is supposed to be a beautiful trail. From Nevis view, we enjoyed an evening stroll to Great Glen Way. It takes you past back yards, crosses a wee railroad track and gives a stunning view of Loch Eil en Ben Nevis.

Thank you so much for the Review of your recent stay at ‘Nevis View’. We really enjoyed having you stay and also our lengthy conversations whilst you were being served your Breakfasts! I’m glad you enjoyed the food and our chats as much as you did! I love your description of walking us Ben Nevis as a ‘hoist’! Certainly, the Cow Hill Circuit is less demanding than going up the Ben, but it still gives you good views of the surrounding countryside even though the height achieved is lower than the summit of the Ben!

Thank you for the Review of your recent stay at 'Nevis View'. We're glad you enjoyed your stay here and especially that your Breakfast was an 'unexpected delight'! The compliment paid has left your 'Chef' feeling very, very happy! Your tip about visitors needing to think ahead and reserve a table in the Restaurant of their choice when eating out in Fort William , is very apt unfortunately. It was a pleasure to have you stay and we hope to see you again when you return to Fort William sometime in the future.

Thank you for the Review of your recent stay at 'Nevis View'. The facilities are shared, which is indicated on the Booking Form. Sharing means that you have to walk a few steps to access the Shower Room, as the facilities are not in your Bedroom - only six steps in total, in two stages, downstairs! This is our home, and yes, we do have a lot of things, which does give a cluttered appearance to some, but everything is neat and tidy and never impedes our guests from moving freely around the house. I have to say your two companions thought the house was lovely and said as much to me! I'm glad you thought I was 'great' even though surprisingly, you only scored 3 (average) for everything else!

Everything was clean, the breakfasts were great, the book collection was impressive, Barbara was extremely helpful with transportation questions and the backyard is great on sunny days. A good place to unwind after walking the West Highland Trail.

Tips:

Walking down to the locks to watch the boats move through and walking along the shore line was a great route into town. The train and bus were all close by. The pedestrian street through the middle of Fort William was perfect for strolling and dining out.

Thank you for the Review of your recent stay at 'Nevis View'. There is no nightly curfew timing and I'm sorry you misunderstood what was said. We usually lock the front door at 23.00, but if we know our guests are going to be back later than this, we leave the door unlocked and ask our guests to lock it when they return. Unfortunately, Tradewinds, our local pub (in Corpach). only offers hot food until 20.00 on Friday and Saturday evenings. The Co-op Supermarket in Corpach, sells a selection of food and is open until approximately 22.00. Fort William offers many different eating possibilities which are easier to access if you have your own transport.

I'm not quite sure what facilites you expected, but the majority of my guests are more than happy with what we offer and that their expectations are met. In the U.K., and also in Europe I believe, Restaurants are finding that staff are hard to find and so their opening hours and days that they open are restricted. I'm sorry you couldn't find anywhere in Fort William to eat at 20.00, but that is outwith my control! Thank you for the Review of your stay at 'Nevis View'. The notice on the door, about which you comment, says "Welcome! Visitors are asked to either knock or ring the bell and then wait to be invited in. Thank you." I don't see how this can be deemed to be unwelcoming, especially as anyone arriving for the first time to stay here, is going to have to do just that moments later! We are offering B&B in our home and the notice is there to ask Guests (who are expected) to not just walk in unannounced on arrival, as had often happened in the past. We prefer to welcome guests in person and to show them to their rooms, where we can explain where everything is and how things work. As you know, we do not have credit card facilities but when you booked, you were sent an email which mentioned our not having these facilities and the need to pay any balance due in cash. We use the time between 10.00 and 17.00 to, for instance, get rooms ready, clean, do the washing, hang it out, do the necessary shopping and go to appointments that might have been made. Although we ask guests staying more than one night to go out for the day during those times, the email sent on booking also indicates that, with prior agreement or an emergency, returning within those times is also possible. Most of our guests come to the area with plans to do lots of activities / visits etc., which they undertake whatever the weather and often stay out considerably longer than 17.00, as you did! We're really glad you enjoyed your stay and that I was able to help with information that enabled you to achieve what you wanted to do on both days. We hope you were successful in your walk up and down Ben Nevis and weren't too tired at the end of it all.

We're not fans of shared bathrooms, but the stay close to Fort William was a good opportunity for us. Thank you for the Review of your recent stay at 'Nevis View'. Your comments about the shared Bathroom come as a bit of a surprise, because when anyone makes a booking to stay at 'Nevis View', it is made quite clear on the Booking Form, that the facilities are shared and the B&B rate reflects this. On the night you were here, there was only one other person staying and sharing these facilities with you. Breakfast is always served to our Guests in our large Dining cum Sitting Room. (In the UK, houses often have such shared rooms and do not have seperate Dining and Sitting Rooms.) Because you stayed in early June, I cannot remember the timing of your Breakfast, but as my other guest was climbing Ben Nevis that day, I rather think you had sole use of the Dining Room that morning. As no-one ever uses the Sitting Room end when Breakfast is being served, I'm not sure why this was even mentioned, but I'm really glad you enjoyed the Breakfast provided!

Thank you for the Review of your recent stay at 'Nevis View'. For someone about to walk the Great Glen Way, and the relative closeness of Corpach Station to 'Nevis View' we're really surprised that you only scored us 3 for Location, especially as the Station where you arrived, and the start of the Great Glen Way, are so close to the house. There's nothing we can do about the lack of eating facilities in Corpach, but we were able to point you in the direction of the two eateries that are closest to 'Nevis View'. The Co-op, which is right on our doorstep here in Corpach, does sell sandwiches, wraps, snacks, food-to-go and a good selection of liquid refreshements, both hot and cold, which many of our guests find suits their needs.

Very homely and comfortable

Thank you for the Review of your recent stay at 'Nevis View'. I have to add that there are excellent views of Ben Nevis from this house - hence the name 'Nevis View'! There are very limited options for eating out in Corpach, but apart from the Take Aways in Caol that you mention (there are more than two), there is also a pub called The Lochy and a Hotel called The Moorings which has a Bistro offering food, both of which are about 1.5 miles away and both within walking distance if you wanted some exercise after your journey. Other than that, you do have to go into Fort William where there is plenty of choice, but again, most places stop serving by 21.00.

Great place to stop over when walking or cycling along the Great Glen way in a quiet area with amazing views over the Loch. Barbara and her husband gave me a friendly welcome, my room was comfortable and a good breakfast is served in the morning too.

Tips:

There is a bike lock made available for cyclists. The village of Corpach doesn't have many amenities but there is a co-op down the road for shopping and a small bar next to it; for dinner you have to go to Caol which is a 10 minute cycle or 30 minute walk.

A very warm welcoming and a great stay overall. Calm location with lovely green surroundings, very clean room and facilities and delicious breakfast. In proximity to both train and bus stations.

During the Summer Timetable there are four trains a day in either direction (Glasgow and Mallaig). The Train Station and Bus Stops are close to 'Nevis View'. The Co-op Supermarket has an ATM and opens early in the morning until late into the evening. It's a good place to buy reasonably priced food etc. for your packed lunches and evening meals. 21st September 2021:

Great host, with very relaxed and friendly approach to guests making you feel very welcome in their home. Very knowledgeable of area and of Ben Nevis, peak can be seen from the room and various points at the property. Place is quiet and peaceful and great to get some restorative sleep. Breakfast was just right to fuel me up for the long days out and about.

Tips:

Short walk / ride to the sea lock and canal where you can follow a nice trail path to fort William town centre. Local co-op on the main road well stocked with cash machine and small bar next door. There is a path down at the side of the accommodation. I also walked up Ben Nevis from here, heading down the canal to the sing beige, then head along the road to the distillery off the roundabout go through their yard which is a public right of way and follow the path along the stream until you turn left at the top, you follow a golf course and eventually reach the north face trail from here there’s a nice woodland area for various walks, or drive here to the north face car park. From here I headed up the mountain following the Càrn Mòr Dearg Arête and then for the summit of Ben Nevis, coming down safely on the mountain path then looping back to the north face trail. It’s the best hiking route I’ve ever done but not for the faint hearted, prepare for all weathers and take care attempting this. Be sure to let someone know your plan your route and when you intend to be back. I had a gps tracker on my watch along with the route loaded in.

Thank you for your Review. There is a small notice placed under the mirror, above the Chest of Drawers in the room you stayed in, asking our guests to either Check Out by 10.00 or for those who are staying more than one night, to go out for the day by 10.00 each morning and to not return to their Room before 17.00. These timings are included on the Booking Form and in an email you were sent in advance of your stay. We need this downtime without Guests in the house, so we can clean and service the accommodation, go out shopping, go to appointments that we might have made, etc., etc. We only give our Guests front door keys when we know we will not be home until after 17.00 and during your week's stay, that was never necessary. We usually lock-up for the night at 23.00 but if you had said you were unlikely to be back by then, you would have been given a front door key. 'Nevis View' is a family home where we happen to offer B&B. We do not, and never have offered 24 hour access. Perhaps a Hotel might have been a better option for you and your family if you felt this was a basic requirement?

We found the host to be unfriendly and condescending. The room was very cramped, with the TV mounted next to the head of the bed, so you cannot watch TV without straining your neck! The beds were very uncomfortable. The miserly cooked breakfast included only 3 mushrooms, 1 tomato, baked beans and 1 vegan sausage. A shared bathroom (no separate wc) meant we were sharing with another guest, which in the current Covid climate was not great). To top it off, at breakfast the host informed us that we were required to sign a register because of fear of terrorism. Being South Asian we felt it was rather an inappropriate comment to make. She could have simply asked us to sign the register without making such an offensive suggestion.

Tips:

Glen Coe and Steall Falls is really stunning. A pop up restaurant in Fort William called Tiger on the Wall had good vegan options, with helpful and friendly staff.

Oh dear! Unfriendly and condescending I most certainly am not and the comments left by guests in the Visitor's Book do not support your assertion. Before you arrived, you made many, many phone calls and these were always answered with courtesy and detailed explanations when needed. Your journey was much longer than it should have been due to a fatal accident closing the A82 just south of Fort William, but I gave you as much support as I could, regarding the options available to you for the diversion which would bring you to 'Nevis View'. Location I can do nothing about and yet you booked to stay here, presumably knowing where the house was situated. As it turned out, it was extremely well situated for the diversion you had to take along the A830 to get to ‘Nevis View’ following the fatal accident on the A82! I am really surprised by your '3' rating for cleanliness, considering your comment in the Visitor's Book was that it was "nice and clean". If you had an issue, I would have preferred that you let me know when you were here and not wait until you wrote a Review. Breakfasts:- fruit juice, organic milk / plant based milk, a good selection of cereals and yoghurts, tea / coffee, toast, butter (dairy or plant based), selection of jams and marmalade + a cooked breakfast. My guests always comment favourably on what is offered and for meat eaters the cooked side of things consist of 2 slices of bacon, 1 sausage, I tomato and 1 egg. I'm sorry that you felt your Vegan Cooked Breakfasts were "miserly", but in quantity, they equated with the equivalent meat and Vegetarian based Breakfasts, which everyone rates highly. I cannot anticipate the appetite of all guests who stay here, but the quantity of cooked food served to our guests, has never previously been an issue. The Booking Form which you completed, clearly states that the facilities are shared between the two rooms I offer for B&B and so should not have been a surprise. The other guest who was staying the same night as you, came in late and was up and away long before you had Breakfast, so she could hardly have coincided with you and your family to make sharing the facilities awkward. I should like to apologise for offending you regarding my explanation about terrorism and why the details being asked for were needed. B&Bs in Fort William have recently been approached by Anti-Terrorist Police based in Edinburgh, regarding two people who might have been guests of a B&B in the area, and who subsequently appeared in Court charged with being in possession of explosives! Searching through the Visitor's Book I could ascertain that they had not stayed in the time frame the Police were interested in. From that enquiry came the demand that details such as I asked you for, are given by every guest. I ask for the details at Breakfast, because when you Check-in, you are busy with other matters and filling in the Scottish Government's Track and Trace Form. It never entered my head that the fact you are of South Asian descent might be a reason for offence being taken from a perfectly true statement of fact. I'm not sure what facilities you expected from a Three Star Visit Scotland B&B, but I'm sorry you felt they were “Poor”. The room is compact, but is of adequate size for three people sharing, otherwise Visit Scotland would not have given me the grading. If you wanted to watch T.V. without straining your neck, perhaps you could have moved to a more favourable spot? It sits on a swivel base so it can be angled to watch more easily. Although rated "Poor" the facilities offered in the room were well used by you and your family! The same beds which you and your family slept in and which you described as being "very uncomfortable", were only this morning commented on as being so comfortable that the guests had had a really, good night's sleep! I find the complete contrast of your experience and last night's guests very strange, given they refer to the same beds! Although you did not enjoy your stay at ‘Nevis View’ I’d like to wish you and your family all the best and would like to suggest you chose a Hotel next time around, which should match your expectations better than ‘Nevis View’ seems to have done.

Wonderful views over the loch to the mountains from my bedroom, very clean, with a bathroom and shower close by which I had to myself . Splendid breakfast and a welcoming host - who gave me advice on good dog walks. Sure hope to return

Tips:

A walk down to the canal and loch from the side of the house. A local Co-op on the main road. And Glenfinnan viaduct only a 15 minute drive away

i stayed with my mate as we stayed there so we could climb Ben Nevis. The price was affordable for us both and not very far away. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. Barbara was a great host and the breakfast was good too. Usb and free wifi in the room too.

Tips:

not far from the bus stop and shops and a cafe and bar which i think did food but not too sure as went to Fort William to eat.We were there for a weekend to climb Ben Nevis but there is a tourist information shop in Fort William if you wanted to discover more. Also a train station in Corpach but we used the local bus and taxi from Fort William.

As we arrived too early, we got a cold welcome. The rooms on the first floor are very small, but have a lot of facilities. The shared bathroom is on the ground floor. Breakfast is OK. Concerning eating-out our host told us that she doesn't go out for a meal and can't recommend a place, but she knew the locations of some places.

Owner Response:

Oh dear!! I'm sorry that you felt you had a cold welcome. Check-in is offered between 16.00 and 19.00 and as you said you would arrive between 16.00 and 16.30, I don't think you could have arrived 'too early'. I don't recall treating you and your parents any differently than I would any other guest, which many of the unsolicited comments in my Visitors' Book say how welcoming and friendly I am! There are also plenty of comments which say how good my Breakfasts are, so I am disappointed you thought yours were only 'OK'. You knew in advance that the Shower Room is shared, but with only three of you, from the same family, I wouldn't have thought this to be a problem. The layout of the house I can do nothing about - that's the way it is! The Bedrooms, two up, two down, are split level, and are NOT two full storeys high. The Bedrooms I let for B&B are on the upper floor, reached by six steps, in three stages and the Shower Room is on the Ground Floor and is not that far away. The Bedrooms are small but are well equipped, which you acknowledge in your comments. It is true, that because we live here, we don't go out for meals and so do not feel we can recommend anywhere without personal experience. Additionally, I prefer the non-committal approach since we do not know our newly arrived guests, which type of environment you like to eat in (e.g. restaurant / pub), what your food preferences are, nor what your budget is! What if you didn't like the recommended eating place? You would no doubt condemn me for that too, which is why I do not recommend! I do know more than 'some places' to eat and as there is a Handbook in the Bedrooms which list almost all of the eating places both in Fort William itself and within easy reach of the town centre, I wouldn't have thought that it would be a problem for you to find somewhere to eat that suited you and your family.

You should know, that the Nevis-View ist a private B&B in the house of the hosts. You share the entrance and corridor, brakfast is served in the living room. The rooms are 50s style and a bit to full of things. If you like this style, I would recommand it.

Tips:

Corpach is about 5km from Fort William. Its a little village, wich is nice situated on the Caledonia Canal. There is a Coop Supermarket (open till 11pmp), but no Pubs to diner. I would recommand to walk to "The Lochy" (about 2,5km each way) in the next village (Banavie), which also is a beautiful promenade.

Thank you for your surprising Review! Our B & B is also our home and yes, we have plenty of possessions, but everything has its place and is kept there, neatly and tidily. We let two Bedrooms for B & B and so everyone, whether family or guest, shares the entrance and the corridor in order to be able to access the various rooms within the house. I don't know of any B & B or Guest House that doesn't share the entrance and corridor with the owner and their family if they live on the premises. The house was not built until the middle 1960s so the rooms cannot be, and are not, in the style of the 1950s! We don't live in the past and none of the rooms reflect the past - they are all freshly decorated and are in keeping with the present era. We have one large Dining cum Sitting Room and any meal is served to guests seated at the table in the Dining Room, NOT the Sitting Room! I had hoped for a 5 for Service and Staff considering you were collected from Fort William on the evening of your stay, AND, when I realised you had miscalculated the timing of the early morning train by some 30 minutes, woke you in sufficient time for you to have Breakfast served at 06.30 (a full hour earlier than I normally start) and still have time to catch the train, which you would otherwise have missed!!

To say this Review of your recent stay at 'Nevis View' is very disappointing is putting it mildly, especially as the unsolicited comment in the Visitors Book that you wrote said "Great"! Quite a contradiction!! Location I can do nothing about, but you booked the property a full month before your actual stay and presumably knew where Corpach was, otherwise you would have chosen somewhere else that suited you better. A '3' for Cleanliness is also disappointing, seeing as all areas throughout the property are thoroughly cleaned everyday. A '1' for Facilities is outrageous, considering everything that is provided to all our guests as a matter of course! We would not have been awarded a grading of 3 Stars by Visit Scotland if the facilities were poor, which they certainly are NOT! A '1' for Service / Staff is shocking, especially since my husband and I went out of our way to help you in every way we could during your stay. All in all, a very disappointing Review from a guest we actually enjoyed having to stay!

I'm sorry that you felt that the Service provided to you during your stay of two weeks was average, especially since you were provided with everything for which you did not have to ask and then again, for everything for which you did ask, including being woken up at 09.00 every day for Breakfast! You were often back extremely late at night and fresh milk was always provided to you, no matter the hour, so you could have your cups of tea in your room. It is usual for B & B s to have a time in which the owners can clean and tidy, prepare the rooms for the next guests, go shopping for what is needed in the B & B and to have a short period of down time. Appointments that are needed are made specifically during this period. Guests being asked to vacate their room from 10.00 until 16.00 everyday is not out of the ordinary. If it really is a necessity for you to stay in for as long as you want until you are ready to begin your day, then I would suggest you stay at a Hotel, where this should be less of a problem.

Location - yours was a last minute booking and so the location might not have been what you would have chosen if you had a number of places to chose from. Unfortunately, I cannot do anything about the location, BUT the house looks onto Ben Nevis (hence the name), onto the mountains and lochs and towards Fort William. Most guests think the views to be had are fantastic and so the location can't be that bad! I'm glad you thought the cleanliness was good but am disappointed that you only gave a 3 for facilities. You have to remember we are a Three Star B&B and so the facilities are not going to be as extensive as places which have been awarded a higher grading than mine. I provide hairdryers in the rooms, Dressing Gowns for my guests to wear to and from the shared facilities, tea / coffee making facilities, clock / radio and colour t.v. together with very comfortable beds and furnishings to a high standard! Being awarded a 2 for Service / Staff is very disappointing. I don't understand this rating as the Staff never changes and the Service I provide to my guests is always of the same high standard and I'm frequently complimented on my hosting. Strange that the guests providing the following two Reviews after yours both rated Service / Staff as 5. Despite the overall rating of 3 which you gave me, I'm glad to see that you would recommend 'Nevis View' to other travellers!

Despite your very low overall score for 'Nevis View', you said you would recommend our property to other travellers, which seems a bit of a contradiction, but for which we are very grateful! The location we can do nothing about, but when you booked the accommodation in early March, there must have been plenty of properties from which to choose and despite the location being clearly stated, you chose to stay here, so the location must have been acceptable to you then. The unsolicited comment you left in our Visitor's Book mentioned the "stunning views" which can only be because of our location! A score of 1 for cleanliness is extremely disappointing, especially since each bedroom, the Shower Room and the rest of the house was thoroughly cleaned everyday. The majority of our visitors actually comment on how clean the property is, so it is a pity you did not raise the issues you seem to have had whilst you were here, so they could have been addressed. We don't actually understand your rating, as the cleaning done during your stay, was exactly the same as when others have stayed, leading to the complimentary comments. Last year when 'Nevis View' was inspected by Visit Scotland, we were awarded Three Stars. The Inspector actually complimented us on the facilities we offer, so we're not sure what additional facilities you were expecting to have provided. Four and Five Star properties, by virtue of the number of stars, have more facilities, so in future, you should maybe look for properties with a higher grading than we have. Your comment "very nice hosts" doesn't tally with your score of two for Service / Staff. Again, unsolicited comments in the Visitor's Book completely contradict your verdict and we don't know what more could have been done to improve your scoring as you were treated no differently to anyone other of our guests.

A great B&B for a bargain price. Bearing in mind this is the same price as the SYHA or any other hostel, you shouldn't be going expecting 5* luxury and en suites. If you're after a warm, hospitable host, cosy room, cooked breakfast, don't mind sharing a bathroom and don't want to pay some of the more premium rates in Fort William/Corpach then the Nevis View is genuinely perfect. I stayed in the single room, which had ample space to spread out my climbing gear and heavy bags, the cooked breakfast was really good, I was offered as much coffee as I could drink and Barbara couldn't have been more hospitable and genuine. For £35 a night you can't go wrong.

They don't take card payment, but there is a conveniently located cash point at the co-op

Owner Response:

I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. When I cleaned the room that day, it did not smell when I left it ready for your stay. Admittedly the bedroom is small but it meets the Visit Scotland guidelines for accommodating three people. Likewise the Shower Room is also small but it is perfectly adequate for being used by one person at a time. Location I can nothing about, facilities are more than good. Besides having heating and lighting, the room has a colour t.v, a clock/radio and tea and coffee making facilities. I think perhaps your expectations exceed what a Two Star B & B has to offer and you should look to stay at a Guest House or Hotel in future. Lastly, I expected to be given a better rating than 3 for Service/Staff, especially since I'd been honest and pointed out your Booking had been for three adults, not two adults and a child, which meant you were expecting to pay £14.00 more than was due. I naturally asked you for the correct payment and did not charge you for leaving a day earlier than had been booked, which I was quite entitled to do.

The facilities were quite restrictive. We were restricted to the bedroom only, except for breakfast where we were allowed to sit at the dining table. There were no places to sit, lounge or otherwise relax in the building. For £56, I would have a imagined a more comfortable stay. Also the house is filled with a lot of stuff. While I did not bother me entirely, there was lacking a vibe of a bed and breakfast. That's all there was: A bed and a breakfast. Also, I did not feel entirely welcome by our host. Our presence seemed like an inconvenience to her. Questions about accommodation (e.g. Sitting outside to enjoy the view described on the website) were met with a jeer and a passive hesitation. It seemed to me the host wanted us in and out as quickly as possible.

Owner Response:

Nevis View is a Two Star Bed & Breakfast and is our home. You have to expect that being a family home, we have our personal belongings throughout the house but these are not just left lying about - everything is stowed neatly and tidily. We offer Bed & Breakfast pure and simple. We do not masquerade as offering anything but. If you want somewhere to stay that offers more facilities than Nevis View does, then I suggest you look for a Guest House or Hotel and be prepared to pay considerably more than the very reasonable rate you paid for your room. You arrived just after 8 o'clock at night and I was very surprised by your request for outside seating given the time of day, the weather and that midges were likely to be out! You were also very short of time in which to travel to a restaurant and order, as most places in this area stop serving food at 9 o'clock. I admit that I expressed considerable surprise because of the above reasons, but did not ‘jeer’ at your request and did offer you some seating, which you then declined. You went out and came back quite late and went straight to your room, where you had a perfectly comfortable sofa on which to sit. So to say you had nowhere to 'sit and lounge', is simply not true. Breakfast is normally served between 07.30 and 09.00. Because you were climbing the Ben that morning, I offered to serve you Breakfast much earlier than normal, as you had planned to go without this meal because of your early departure, an offer that you took up. Breakfast is always served at the Dining Room Table. To say you were 'allowed' to sit at the table is a travesty. All our guests are shown in to the Dining Room, as were you, and are invited to sit at the table where Breakfast is then served. Your welcome was no less than the welcome extended to all our guests. Your presence was NOT an 'inconvenience' and we did not want you 'in and out as quickly as possible'. You read the unsolicited comments in our Visitors' Book left by the guests who had already stayed this year and these completely back up what I have said about the welcome that is extended to everyone and contradict what you have said in this Review. :(

Beautiful house in a magic location. Barbara is the perfect host, absolutely friendly and available for any suggestions or help you will need. The house is clean and warm, absolutely recommended!

Tips:

Better to have a car to reach all the destinations because the house is in an area not in the town center, very close by car but I guess walking would be maybe 20 min or more. For foreigner travelers, it's good practice to know that usually the restaurants close the kitchen at 9pm, so be advised if you are organizing your dinner! Enjoy your stay, it's worth every penny!

Thank you for your Review aspects of which I disagree with. 1) The house is NOT a mess! Yes, we have a lot of things, but everything is kept neat and tidy and is stored in an organised fashion. 2) The room you stayed in is small, but is not cramped, otherwise it would not pass Visit Scotland's Grading for a Two Star B & B. The room has a Double Bed & a Single Bed, which when not required (as when you stayed), is set up as a sofa, which is plenty big enough for two people to sit on! 3) The location I can do nothing about, but to say it is "Below Average" cannot be further from the truth! You yourself recommended a pleasant walk to the nearby canal & locks which would not be possible if the location was different.

A very pleasant area, good for exploration for so many places in the West Highlands. Drives to places such as Eileen Donan Castle and Glenfinnan, etc are not that far away. Owner Response:

Your review is very disappointing. I can do nothing about the location but would have thought that as you were walking The Great Glen Way, it was an ideal location for beginning that walk. The facilities are NOT below average for a Two Star B&B. The Visit Scotland inspector thought that what is offered at 'Nevis View' is above average for a property obtaining two stars. As your bus from Glasgow arrived at 21.00, I offered to collect you from the Bus Station in Fort William, which you gratefully accepted. On the way to Nevis View, I pointed out various important way points for your walk and even took you down to the Canal Basin, so that in the morning you would know where you would need to go to begin walking The Great Glen Way. When you booked, you asked for an evening meal, but as you were arriving so late at night this was not possible. Instead, I offered you homemade soup and rolls which were served at 21.45 and which you said were very good. Breakfasts are normally served from 07.30 but you asked if you could have Breakfast at 06.45 which I happily complied with as you had a long walk that day. I feel your review is very unfair, especially since I went out of my way to help you and to accommodate your requests.

Owner Response:

I'm sorry to learn that you did not enjoy your stay at 'Nevis View'. Unfortunately, I can do nothing about the location of the property, but if the weather is good and cloud is not obscuring the scenery (weather can never be guaranteed), there is an excellent view of Ben Nevis from the room you stayed in. The room is small, but is not a "shoebox" and the daily B & B rate per adult, is very reasonable - NOT "ridiculous" as you state. 'Nevis View' was recently assessed by 'Visit Scotland' and received an extremely good report, indicating the property to be well above the standards expected for a Two Star B & B in almost all respects. Regarding your check-in, I contacted you in advance to ask that you put back your planned arrival by one hour to 17.00, as I had a medical appointment in Inverness that afternoon. This was agreed, but unfortunately the volume of traffic between Inverness and Fort William made for a much longer journey than was anticipated and was exacerbated by my being caught out by the opening of three road bridges over the Caledonian Canal to allow boat traffic through - each opening adding at least 15 minutes apiece to the journey! As a consequence, I was not home by the agreed time, for which I apologised when you eventually checked-in much later that evening after your evening meal! I dispute that you were treated coldly at any time during your stay, as this is simply not my way and the numerous unsolicited comments written in the Visitor's Book, bear testimony to the friendliness and helpfulness extended towards all who stay with us! My husband even brought in your washing that had been hung on our washing line to avoid it getting drenched by the rain that started whilst you were on the Steam Train, which was acknowledged in the comment you subsequently wrote in the Visitor's Book!

Very nice relaxing accommodation with an astonishing view at the loch and the mountains, a little bit outside, but close to the end of the Caledonian canal. Really nice hostess + great breakfast for a good value. To watch the singing birds in the lovely garden is just great for everyone who enjoys nature.

Tips:

Just have a tour through the Treasure of the Earth exhibition if you like crystals, metals and fossils just 2 mins from the B&B. A walk alongside the loch is also massively enjoyable in good weather. After around 1h walk through Caol you can reach Inverlochy castle and visit the distillery nearby. If you love to explore the surroundings by bike, the Caledonian canal might be the right choice for you. Using a bike would also get you fast from Corpach through Caol and Inverlochy to Fort William. High recommendation: West Highland Museum in the Fort William town centre!
