22nd May 2024:

In the weeks prior to our stay, Paul was an excellent communicator responding quickly and thoroughly to any questions. He’s a very kind and attentive host; we could not have asked for more. Since purchasing Spean Lodge, Paul has remodeled the lodge to a high standard while maintaining the integrity of the home’s history and architecture. At the same time, it’s a very comfortable home, and our room was lovely. We very much enjoyed the upstairs sitting room and the very pretty dining room for our breakfasts. The chef offered several breakfast choices, the servings were plentiful and our food was outstanding. We are grateful for our lovely stay and would love to return!

Tips:

If you wish, Paul will recommend outings and restaurants. During our too-brief stay, we very much enjoyed Glen Coe, a hike to Steall Waterfall, and sights in Glenfinnan.

17th May 2024:

We had the 2 bedroom apartment which was very spacious. The beds were really comfortable, one bedroom had an en-suite bathroom and there was a further shower room. We didn’t have the breakfast option but the kitchen was fully fitted. The host is welcoming and friendly.

Tips:

Speak Bridge is a small village 8 miles from Fort William so it is an ideal location for many excursions- climbing Ben Nevis, Steall falls, trip to Glenfinnan, or a bit further to the coast at Morar or Malaig. It is on the Scot line route from Glasgow to Malaig so you can take the train and sit back and look at the scenery instead of driving. The old station has been converted to a restaurant (we didn’t try it)

Truly the best B&B. We stayed in the apartment, and can't rave enough about it. Clean, convenient, more than accommodating owner. We loved being able to make a fire, cook after our long day, then relax in the living room. Ohhh and the amazing tub in the master bath. Felt like home! My daughters favorite part is what she called "secret garden door" a door from the garden to the road that leads to shops and restaurants. Amazing!!!

Tips:

Near the Viaduct. The Bridge Cafe, good food.

It was an absolutely fantastic stay. Paul couldn’t do enough for us and the other guests. He arranged reservations for our evening meal and was very attentive when’s you saw him or David the chef. The room was outstanding and the food was excellent. Its location is beautiful and peaceful. We plan to go back again soon. Thanks to Paul and David.

8th May 2024:

We had a lovely time with Paul and Jackie. We arrived late but Paul was very kind and hospitable and made us feel like we were no trouble at all (although I'm sure we were). There was an issue with our booking not reflecting correctly as well but everything made us feel welcome and at ease. The lodge is lovely, well furnished and comfortable - we had a good night's rest and wished we had more time. The breakfast was awesome and very filling - good to get ready for a day out! The star would be the hospitality Paul demonstrated.. if this is not the epitome of Scottish hospitality, I'm not sure what is!

Tips:

Check in on time and not as late as us! That would give one more time to enjoy what the lodge has to offer. The lodge is in a peaceful and lovely setting for a walk around. The shared lounge was lovely as well - enjoyed the photographic books of the amazing landscapes in Scotland.

We has a great weekend staying at Spean Lodge. The accommodation was beautifully presented, and very comfortable. Lots of extra touches made our stay most enjoyable. Lovely location next to the river, with well maintained gardens where you can sit outside and enjoy the view/weather. Ideal location to explore the surrounding areas, nice and peaceful to return to after a busy day. Superb breakfasts, where the host was very attentive to individual needs. Would highly recommend.

Tips:

We had dinner on the first evening at The Old Station restaurant, a short walk from Spean Lodge. It was lovely, but would recommend booking in advance.

Our stay at Spean Lodge was fantastic. We chose the River View apartment which is a great place to stay at. There is a large garden where the children can play and Paul is a wonderful host who tried his best to make us feel at home. We definitely recommand Spean Lodge.

Tips:

We do recommand the hike at Steal Falls and it is also worth driving to Morar beaches.

25th April 2024:

Spean Lodge is a wonderful place, providing an excellent base for visiting the beautiful Scottish Highlands. We loved our stay in the Wee Apartment, which is ideal for a family with two children (or four adults) - luckily the days have started getting longer, so we could explore nature and still enjoy the coziness of the place. Our daughter says "the place looks like it popped out of a fairy tale, while providing awesomely awesome accommodation and wifi - which you won't need for screen time because the place is great!"! Our son loved meeting sheep in the area and collected 40 pine cones. Thank you, Paul, we will be back! 😊

Tips:

We very much enjoyed the walk from Spean Lodge to the Commando Memorial, and the Spean Falls walk (Ben Nevis) was spectacular. A trip to Glenfinnan and the Silver Sands of Morar is a wonderful thing to do too. We can highly recommend the food and atmosphere at the Ben Nevis Inn!

We had such a brilliant stay... it was like staying in a home, nicer than home. Very clean, thoughtful touches, full kitchen with everything we needed, and with the wee nook and fireplace was so cozy. Paul was super responsive in communication and even picked us up from Gairlochy as we were walking the great glen way. You open the gate and you are right in the centre of spean bridge so location is perfect. Thank you so much Paul for hosting us all so superbly.

Just a one night flying stay on my journey to climb Munros but an excellent base for the night. Lovely room, warm and cosy with stunning ensuite and wonderful host. Sadly I could not stay for breakfast but would definitely return for a longer stay.

Tips:

IF you are a walker it is a paradise. Many hills and loch walks.

14th March 2024:

Charming and convenient location set in two acre grounds with a mature trees of interest and many birds. Our hosts, Jackie and Paul, were very welcoming and helpful. The bedroom spacious and comfortable. Beds are very comfortable and shower room newly refurbished. The lounge and dining room also very spacious and inviting, both with log fires. Breakfasts were great for days in the hills. Convenient restaurant and shops nearby. Would highly recommend.

Tips:

The railway station restaurant and bar are a short walk form Spean Lodge and offer local beers and a reasonable cuisine with good service. The Lodge is well located at the junction from the south, east and north and convenient for hill walking and cycling as well as water sports.

Outstanding hospitality on every level, a beautiful grand home with wonderful light, spaces and decoration. A dream breakfast, perfect to start the day. Paul is the most charming and kind host. Like staying with a fine friend who lives in fine style. Could not have done more to help us with our holiday plans. The Highlands at their best.
